after the deus ex fiasco where gamestop chose to actively rob thier customers, i decided that was the final straw. until now i have bought the majority of my games from my local EB(canadian company owned by gamestop) and had not really explored other options.

well today i went to my much less conveniently located microplay and found that it didnt even know what if any preorder offers were available with the titles i wanted, rage, dark souls, and arkham city. what is more, apparently the company only gets an incredibly small number of things like collectors editions so i probably cant get anything like a collectors edition from them either.

i really dont want to give my business to gamestop or its proxy companies, and i am not asking for anyone to beat thier price, just match it. so far though, the options seem to suck.

i am very leary of an online retailer simply because i have been robbed by brokerage fees for goods shipped from the usa before and i will simply never do business with a company that tries to charge a brokerage fee again as long as i live. what is more, i actually do want these titles on thier release date, and to the best of my knowledge delivery is pretty hit or miss with these companies.

does anyone have any experience with this that they can share, expecially anyone in canada? if there is absolutely no choice then i guess i will have to continue to give money to gamestop, but if there is any reasonable way to not do so.....

thank-you in advance for your consideration of this matter.

so your Canadian, eh (this isn't ironic, I actually do say eh sometimes)? depending where you live, there may be a microplay somewhere nearby. They're usually pretty good. Otherwise, there's always Futureshop (except they overcharge)

Why not do a simple big box mart? Wal Mart, Target or Best Buy are good, if I don't buy games from Gamestop it's from them.

American, so I can't give you any Canadian experiences with it.

Steam if you don't mind digital download. I love it and recommend it. Also the drop in play with my friends is amazing for TF2 and such.

Why not Wal Mart, I am sure they have them in Canada. Why is the ability to pre-order so important? It's like Gamestop/EB has convinced people that pre-ordering is the best way to buy games. Blind faith is never the best way.

Doesn't Xbox have a Games on Demand type of system for it? You can go for that instead.

Otherwise, your only other choice is Target and what not and you won't get a lot of the pre-order stuff from them since Gamestop is a fairly heavy company (when it comes to game sales) that can use that as an advantage with publishers to get them pre-order bonuses.

Best buy is always a good choice, they -in my experience- have been great with preorders and they are a big enough player in gaming that they usually have preorder bonuses.

Like others have said, Amazon or Steam. Or Walmart (not a great selection though)
