Am I going deaf?

Don't know if anyone's had this experience, but whenever I listen to my iPod these days, I hear static (or something like it) when it gets loud or even slightly higher pitched. There's nothing wrong with the earphones, I've checked with my colleagues and they hear everything just fine.

So, is this a symptom of impending deafness? Or just a strange sensitivity to sounds of a particular wavelength? Or am I just a biological aberration?

Mm, it can be anything. it's probably nothing but I'd see a doctor if I were you, just to be on the safe side.

I'd find out if it happens with all loud noises. Turn your car speakers up crazy high, or stick your head in between speakers.

Although, I'd say if you listened to music as loud as possible on a regular basis then yeah you're probably goin' deaf.

Could be tinnitus, though I doubt that. If it is only when you use your own ipod, i'd say it is likely the ipod/headphones, and I'd suggest that the hearing of your co-workers might be too bad to hear it. :p

I've never heard of anyone hearing static due to any kind of hearing loss. Ringing, yes, but never static.

Ringing is what happens when you experience hearing loss, so it could be something else, but if its an annoyance, and its been going on for a while, it couldn't hurt to get it checked out.
