Am I jaded?

I tend to be a narcissist, so this is a question usually answered: "No! You are a lovely pinnacle of human evolution.", by me, while licking a mirror. However, I noticed a couple things, and when I brought the findings to a friend (who is not me) I was told that I was super jaded. Anyway the findings were thus:

I used to be an avid Magic: The Gathering fan, but here lately it's super boring. Many of the decks I play against tend to be built online, by some other douche who's concept of fun is "taking fun away from other people". It's normally coupled with a mindset that the only purpose is to win, and not let your opponent have any fun. It makes me want to remind the shitbag on the other side of the table that, "Yes. Yes you CAN Snapcaster that Supreme Verdict to field wipe a FIFTH time. I, on the other hand, CAN physically drag your face up and down the street." So I quit that.

It seems that ever since the rise of the Realism Bubble, Major League Gaming, and Trolls video games aren't fun anymore. Call me whatever but remember when games were games? What classifies as "casual games" anymore? My gaming career progressed like this: Sonic, Rocket Knight, Awesome Possum, Mario, Spyro, Crash, Ratchet, etc. with spatterings of The Elder Scrolls and Final Fantasy. Since about 2006 I have seen a decline in fun in games. Games! Now I barely play them.

Those are the big ones, but almost all things: Table Top RPGs, Anime, Cartoons, Comics, Movies, just seem so bland and uninteresting. (Side Note before we go on: Yes I saw the South Park episode where this blah blah blah... )

For the first two I can blame the internet for taking competitive play to the masses and you know,... trolls. But what about everything else? I am 24 years old. A little too young to be this bitter. So, am I jaded? What's there to do about it?

It may be that you simply have outgrown them. However if you like the ole arcade games there's a whole library of indie games you might find interesting. I suggest you give em a try.

When I reached a similar state vis-a-vis new-release video games a few years back, I simply just stopped worrying about it. By 2005, I was basically unable to give a crap about almost all new releases, but my interest in certain types of games was still there. I ended up solving my problems by simply doubling-down on older genres I liked. Rather than even bother trying to keep up with all the FPSs and WRPGs that have completely taken over all of my peers' gaming libraries, I went back to my favorite 90s and 00s titles and dug myself in deeper...even ordered a Sega Saturn from Japan to play rare titles like Batsugun. Lord knows there were more than enough good platformers, old-school JRPGs, and arcade-style games (especially shmups!) that I hadn't yet seen.

You just sound like you are burned out which happens from time to time. With regards to games my advice would be to take the odd gamble on a title that you might normally ignore and you may even find a newly loved series, or what I usually do is go back for a while and play some classics I missed out on. I will be the first to admit I have no clue about Magic: The gathering but why do you not try joining a user group specifically for casual play? If there is not one then you could always make one here.

Hopefully you regain some interest again cause I know the feeling of when nothing feels fun anymore and it sucks.

Short answer: Yes. You are jaded, at least regarding this one issue.

Give the MTG a break and look into something else. Warhammer, anime, martial arts, airsoft, whatever.

Good games are out there. One option is to catch up on the good games you missed first time around - buy retro, or go to GOG.com. If mainstream games are bumming you out, don't buy mainstream. I finally picked The Walking Dead (the adventure one, not the crappy FPS one) and I can't remember the last time a game hooked me in quite the same way. Decent games are still out there and still being made.
