Let me start by saying that I am not defending any of the examples that I am mentioning as good work and is very Generalized and doesn't reflect everyone. What I mean is that I feel that the Internet has been making fun of what the adolescent girl likes for far too long and it's just getting board. Any time someone or something like Justin Bieber, Twilight, or Katie Perry, something that a teenage girl likes, we all have to go off on tangents of saying how bad they are, why they're the worst things in the world, and so on. I'm not saying you can't make constructive criticism, and I'm not saying that the ones that's been made against them are wrong(They're all true) but A) keep in mind they're not targeting you, and B) Judging by Mylie Cryus, The Jonas Brothers, and High School Musical's Popularity and how long they lasted, they're all gonna be gone in 4 years tops so the next fad will come in. I just feel that a lot of this whining comes insecurity or male Bias or something around those lines. We've done this dance over and over to the point where I can literally predict what will happen if some other teen girl idol will come.

I'm on board with you. I've never understood all the hating on Justin Bieber/Miley Cyrus/etc. etc. Calling them "the worst thing to happen to music, humanity is doomed". Did everyone forget about people like Jesse McCartney? Or Britney Spears? Give it a few years and a new person will emerge, and all the attention will move from Bieber to them.

As for why they do it? Probably because pre-teens, boys and girls, are easy targets to make fun of. They're old enough that you're not really insulting a child, but young enough that attacking them is simple

I never really saw the reason for the hatred of Justin Bieber. He seems like a pretty cool guy and he's not that bad of a singer.

I think it's just because people like to have something to dislike amongst themselves. Nice way to mentally separate themselves from people they don't want to be associated with.

Yes...you're the only one. I'm not sick at all of half of the posts on 'funny' content sites being something along the lines of "Justin Bieber threw up on stage? Musta sucked too many dicks TROLOLOLOLOL" etc etc

[sub] Sarcasm. It's a beautiful thing.[/sub]

And anyway, without the likes of Justin Bieber, we wouldn't have Heavy Bieber, and that's just wrong.

HEY SLUT DON'T YOU BE TALKIN CRAP BOUT MY BRITNEY SPEARS

But yeah OP I agree. People try so hard to be anti-mainstream, and it's getting to the point where it's more annoying than funny. I've had people say they hate insert-pop-artist-name-here but can only name a couple of the artist's songs tops.

And lol just wait until the "NO YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE" guys show up.

I'd argue that anyone who is a pre-teen is definitely a child. :p

I'm with the OP though, I have a handful of acquaintances who find hilarity in ripping on the latest teenage fad - yet, whenever I've asked what their criticisms of said fad are, they've not been able to come up with anything. None of them have ever read Twilight, for instance, nor seen the films, yet they seem perfectly content to denounce the series and more importantly: anyone who enjoys the series.

Some of my friends do similar, but they at least know where to draw the line.

Besides, the first High School Musical was cool.

Yeah I'm with you, I never understood why people simply didn't remain indifferent towards it, never saw reason for so much hatred, we should make a campaign for indifference!

Why hate, when you can ignore?

What did you say? I'm too busy not caring.

These are the catchphrases that I came up with, I'm sure more clever people can come up with better ones.

I don't understand it. I don't often speak to teenage girls, so pop crazes sweeping through middle schools across the nation don't affect my life.

It's a neverending cycle of these crazes coming up, but instead of a cycle of universally horrible and talentless acts, it's more of a cycle of mediocre to moderately talented acts suffering from overexposure.

I consistently judge my direction in life by comparing my interests with those of teenage girls. So long as there is no crossover, I am doing well.

Back in my day, teenaged girls were into boy bands, Lisa Frank, and Cosmopolitan. I have a feeling teenaged guys and older people hated those things back then as much as teenaged guys and older people hate Twilight and Justin Bieber today. The only difference is today we've got the Internet: an enormous echo chamber for all of this hate to exponentially grow and spread into people who otherwise wouldn't have known about it or cared.

its funny that you make a topic about this because I accidentally clicked he red button and now, everybody is Justin.

anyway, I honestly just love seeing the reactions from the girls whenever someone does anything to their precious fad.

for example when some guy made a rumour about Justin being dead there was some dumb girl who made a video in where she cried because she thought Justin was dead, hilarious stuff I tell you.

Honestly, I find these guys to be confusing. When I hate something I just ignore it. I really dislike rap, so I don't listen to rap. I hate country music, so I avoid country music. I cannot for even a single second believe that they have a harder time avoiding Bieber than I have avoiding two whole genres of music. It's pathetic really. They truly are mere novices in the art of apathy.

I don't understand it either. And you know what, while we're here, I'm a guy and I've only watched the first twilight movie but guess what.

I LIKED IT. I LIKE TWILIGHT.

I very much agree with you. Now I admit, I openly bash, but that's because I can't stand Justin Bieber or High School Musical or any of that crap...BUT I never bash the people who enjoy it. Everyone has their own thing, hell my mother is a rabid Twilight fan, and you can love it as much as you like and I'll even be polite and won't go on a tangent in your presence.

But in my head I'm hating SO hard.

I know that there are tons of people that want to bash on what I do like, video games, manga, anime, ect. ect. and they have just as much right to hate it as I do to love it.

It all boils down to not pissing on someone else's party really.

Apart from the "Am I the only one" part, I agree with you.

It's actually what I say when discussing Twilight. Yes it's poorly written as well as a whole bunch of other faults, but it's not aimed at most of us, so it shouldn't really matter if we like it or not.

As long as the target audience enjoys it, then the person has done a good job.

I'll tell you what .... when you have 3 teenage daughters, you come back and tell me all that stuff isn't too bad.

If you can manage it with a straight face and a lack of "I want to hurt people" glinting in your eyes, we can talk.

The way I see it, there just seems to be a lot more stupid content/media/etc that takes itself hilariously seriously in teenage girl fads right now than there are in other mediums. That doesn't mean it's restricted to teenage girl fads though, I'm just as happy ripping on modern action films and metal heads that take themselves overly seriously.
