Am I the only person who thinks Battlefield 3 is overdoing it?

Paying for servers, paying to unlock stuff, and now paying for Battlefield Premium which gives you new weapons and such you can't get otherwise?

Am I the only person thinking they are going a little money crazy with all this? I love the game but it just seem like their money grubbing. What do you guys think?

You forgot paying for multiplayer to begin with if you get it used.

And yes, it's ridiculous. Normally I don't have a problem with any of those things by themselves, but the way they're implemented and all thrown in together means that in this situation it just leaves me flabbergasted.

I mean:

Paying for servers: This is usually fine, but it all depends on the community and the ratio of good to bad server admins. And there's an expectation that on consoles there will be at least some official servers, but they've all been converted to rentals.

Paying for unlocks: Again, usually fine. But as I understand it the vehicles in Battlefield 3 are gimped until you grind or pay for unlocks. That's not cool.

Paying a subscription fee: Season passes are alright I guess, but in this case you're also paying to jump the server queues, which is a little ridiculous.

The end effect of all this is that they seem to be ruining aspects of the game and just charging for fixes later.

Not to mention that the people playing already payed a lot of money for this game. If this were Free-To-Play, that would be one thing, but now they're forcing people to pay even more, or have an inferior experience. Like we needed more reasons to think EA sucks.

It's EA? Did people expect them to not try and milk all the money they can out of one of their bestselling titles?

It's going to continue though and probably get even worse because most BF3 players are happy to throw money at EA and not only pay for all this but defend it.
BTW this is not an insult to BF3 players, it's just that from what I have seen, most people seem to think this is completely fair and are happy to pay.

It annoy's the hell out of me. They are pretty much treating it like a Free to play game except you already had to pay for it, there even going beyond what many free to play games charge for.

It is ridiculous and I'm glad I didn't buy it. I've been playing Tribes: Ascend instead lately. Eventually they will miss my money and apologize to me. If not, to hell with them.

P.S.

Honestly, why anybody even got that sucked into what essentially was Bad Company 3 instead of a Battlefield game is beyond me. The demo, excuse me, beta weekend was shit.

Premium does not give you new weapons. It gives you early access to the DLC and all those weapons included sure, but regular users will get them once the DLC comes out properly anyway.

Only reason I got premium was because I intended to get all the DLC anyway and doing it this way was cheaper.

As for paying so unlock stuff, that is completely optional. Play the game and you unlock it all anyway, I never felt the need to buy extra shit for my kits, or vehicles. It's just an option for people who can't be bothered waiting.

I'm really confused by the notion that you need to buy the kits to have a chance. The starting weapons for every class are perfectly fine, the others just offer different traits that may complement your playstyle better or worse.

You unlock stuff so quick on that game anyway I can't figure out why people would buy the weapons packs.

But then he has nothing to blame his poor performance on.

Again, if people don't agree with this stuff, stop buying it.
Paying for servers is pretty pants though.

Paying for premium equals to paying individually for all the DLC packs, for a lower price actually. The only exclusive weapon to premium is the knife.
Haven't paid anything for servers in BF3, but if I remember correctly, custom servers have always costed money in all server-based games.
Paying for unlocks is also purely optional, and the base weapons are fine as they are.

I haven't paid a single cent since my initial pre-purchase over half a year ago, yet had a lot of fun with both the base game and the karkhand DLC. Strange...

I don't really mind to be honest. Paying for servers has always been around on PC, and even then there's so many you can always find a few good ones and add them to favorites.

Paying for unlocks is... well, helpful to newbies. I've unlocked most of the good stuff anyway.

The premium thing is pretty much irrelevant as far as I can tell, but I don't know the full details yet.

That said, yeah, it's a bit overboard.

You've always been able to rent servers in Battlefield games. The only thing that's different is now console players can do it.

What subscription fee? There's no subscription in BF3.

The sad thing is even though there will be these new maps, no one will play them. It'll be the same shit of Siene, Metro and Bazaar over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Not seen one of the back to Karkand maps in a looooong while (except IF I decide to play Camp Rush) and I expect it to be the same with the new maps.

You know what the solution is, don't you? Don't buy into any of it. Don't give EA any of your money. If this plan of theirs fails then it will go away, otherwise we're stuck with it.
