Pretty self explanatory, as Bezos steps down from being CEO, he lined his pocketbook with the pay that his workers rightfully earned, a literal thief.

You know, I always wondered in these kind of cases...

Do the drivers ever actually get justice (aka their fucking money) from this or does this money go right to the government and the drivers get nothing but a UTI from not being allowed to take a piss in an eight hour shift?

They get exactly the amount of money stolen from them, possibly minus legal fees.

Basically, Amazon loses nothing and suffers no real penalty

A curious thing about the left, how is he not the biggest enemy the left faces. Libertarians have Paul Krugman to hate, Conservatives AOC, and Obama, Neoliberals Bernie, and Trump, Liberals hate Trump and McConnell, but it's hard to pin down who the left hates.

All of the above, minus maybe Bernie and AOC on a good day?

Far as most of "The Left" is concerned, Bernie and AOC are the moderate compromise option

and even then, it's because of policy, not because of who they are

Bernie bending the knee twice to The DNC during the Primaries and right now going on Mainstream Media to help The DNC gaslight everyone on this "$2,000, oh wait, fuck you, $1,400 check" bullshit makes me a very unhappy camper with Bernie. We're feelin The Bern to our back as he helps The DNC jam the knife just a little deeper in...

Overall I'm happy enough with Bernie but right now, he can go Riden with Biden off a cliff.

Although I have no idea what this talk has to do with Jeff Bezos and Amazon being absolute shit so this is likely the only thing I'll say on this topic as this is a thread about Amazon being shit, not Centrists and Republicans being shit...

Bezos, Musk, Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Sam Harris, CNN and MSNBC, and then the largest category: people doing leftism wrong, which can be anyone from Jimmy Dore to Sam Seder, Tulsi Gabbard, TYT, Jacobin, The Intercept, Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Katie Halper, Bernie Sanders, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Briahna Joy Gray, "Assadists", the People's Republic of China or the Soviet Union.

Depends.

If it's a class action lawsuit, then the drivers get some of their money back, but not all of it because lawyers also gotta get paid.

If it's a case that the government brings then whatever fines the government leverages go straight in the pockets of the government.

That's part of the reason that organizations like the SEC don't try to prevent financial crimes, they just prosecute after the fact. Sure the victims are fucked, but the government gets to make millions in fines.

Personally, I worry about actions, not personalities. This cult of personality stuff is such identity politics nonsense. I don't know if people would call me a Leftie though

It amazes me when people are affronted by this. If the government is bringing a case, then yeah, the funds go to the government. They are acting on their behalf and not that of any plaintiff.

I'd point out that I'd want the money to be redirected to serving the people not going into politicians pockets, which I think is what Hipsters meant

It's OK to want to construct a guillotine outside of Jeff Bezos's house, though.

It means the government has a vested interest in not preventing financial crimes because it allows them to prosecute after the fact and fine companies and organizations millions or billions of dollars afterward. The people victimized by those companies will never see a penny in restitution and the government just lets shit happen so they can pocket the cash afterward.

How would Amazon steal people's tips? Tips in my country are not so heavily relied on like they are in America, so I am confused as to how the company could just pocket them.

Presumably, Amazon handles the billing, so when people include a tip in the bill, they just keep it and don't pay it to the driver. Of course this won't work if it's a separate cash tip, which I'll go out on a limb and assume is all of the tips Amazon didn't "withhold".

From the article...
As reported in Vice (2/2/21) and elsewhere, Amazon advertised that independent contractors who deliver packages in its Flex program would receive—no, not healthcare or sick pay, don’t talk crazy—but “100% of the tips” they earned, on top of an $18 to $25 hourly rate. But right away, the FTC found, Amazon “quietly changed course,” slashing payments to drivers and cutting into their tips to make it appear as if though it was still paying the promised hourly rate. Drivers who complained? Got cookie-cutter emails falsely claiming they were still paying 100% of tips, right up until Amazon learned the FTC was onto them.
