I listen to a lot of different genres of music. I know a great many bands that three-quarters of this website has probably never heard of. And this is a terribly pretentious way to start an opening post for a thread. :D

There's really only one artist that I listen to on a regular basis who composes ambient music, and I'd like to find more, so I figured I'd gauge Off-Topic to find out what other Escapambillidandoes might listen to from the genre. Hopefully to save myself from needing to sieve through Youtube, but also to maybe get a little more exposure to the genre itself, because you always hear about rock, pop, metal, rap, etc., but nobody ever really brings up ambient music.

His name is Keith Kenniff, also known as Helios, also known as Goldmund for his piano-based projects.
There's an extra 3 minutes of no sound at the end of the last one there, so I bookended it when the music actually ends.

So, everybody, share your ambient chill-out/instrumental/scenescape music if you've got it.

For what I'm looking for in particular, it doesn't need to be instrumental, but I'm planning on listening while writing, so instrumental would probably be preferable. Movie/game soundtracks aren't excluded, but as I've already got the greatest game soundtrack ever made (Journey), it would again be slightly preferable to have something not tied to another medium.

I listen to some of that stuff when I'm doing something mindless and tedious, or when I'm reading.

Amon Tobin is one of my favorites...

...and Max Richter has some really good stuff too.

Well that was some good stuff. :D

The bass in that Richter song was pretty bumpin', too, real easy song to listen in the background while doing other stuff.

Thanks, I'll have to check more of those out.

Agollach is neo-folk black metal and is pretty ambient.

other than that I'd recommend listening to a few soundtracks; most have good ambient music as they are designed to be played in the back ground.

Interesting. Not exactly what I was looking for, though I'll have to look them up anyway to put alongside the other metal I've got in my music list.

Nice bouncy beat, I like it. I'll have to check out more from that.

I recommend Amiina and Mum
And thank you, as well. Amiina and Mum in particular are scratching the itch that I had.

Yeah, you should check out the trigun soundtrack; it's pretty good.

Also, the neon genesis evangelion soundtracks are fucking awesome, regardless of your opinion on the show.

Ah, brought this up again have we?

We as humanity have the potential to become more than we are. This music is the first step.

You've come to the right place, good sir.

I'm a pretty big fan of atmospheric/forest/ambient metal. :3

spoilered for length

Dhampyr - Passions of Wintry Dusk. Really good song, sadly it's no longer on Youtube. D: PM me if you want to hear it.

If you only want to listen to a couple, go with Lustre, Verwustung, Depressor, and Idaaliur.

If you want similar/more music in the same vein, just PM me. :)
Wow. So. I'll get to those songs tomorrow, because it's already 1 AM and I'm not going to be able to stay awake long enough for some of them. XD

Thanks in advance, though.

Adam Young (the guy behind Owl City) has an amazing ambient side project called Port Blue. This [http://youtu.be/rVbHoghTTXE] is probably my favorite track.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but okay. Just note I'm only going to put one song per artist, and I'm not really going to limit myself to a genre, and I'll try to focus mainly in instrumental music, but not always, and most importantly I cannot guarantee that you will like it:

Hmm... I'm not one for full on ambient music, but judging by the music you posted, Tommy Guerrero might be a chap you'd like to check out.
If not, perhaps Guitar might suit your needs...
I don't know... Hope that helps!

Give some of these a whirl?

(I'd particularly recommend checking out Shadows of the Sun, Perdition City and Teachings in Silence by these guys for ambient music.)

@shrekfan.

I don't know that many specific artists, however one internet radiostation that I often listen to is DroneZone on SomaFM. They play a lot of ambient and chill space-like trance that I like. It's pretty good!

NASA has some albums they've made from various satellites. [http://nasaspacesounds.com/NASA-Space-Sounds-Cds-and-Downloads.php]

The NASA Space Sounds recordings come from a variety of different environments The real NASA Space Sounds Recordings of Earth and other planets.

These NASA Space Sounds are the real recordings made by specific NASA space probes. They include planet Earth. The real NASA Space Sounds are the recordings of the interactions between the Solar Wind in our Solar System and the planets of Earth, Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune. Also included are the moons (satellites) IO and Miranda, and rings of planets Saturn and Jupiter.
Each of six NASA space probes recorded the interactions that
create "soundscapes" of frequencies in the plasma energy "ocean" that travels from the Sun through the void of space.

NASA Space Sounds Recordings of each planet, Earth, Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune, each satellite, IO and Miranda, and each ring system has distinctive patterns created by those interactions. NASA space probes such as Voyager 1 and 2 and four other space probes recorded the NASA Space Sounds, including Earth, that are the vibration frequency interactions that naturally occur in the vacuum of space. Many of these NASA Space Sounds exist within the range of human hearing and can be heard & experienced when played back on Earth. The NASA Space Sounds you hear on these recordings are the real NASA Space Sounds. The "Nasa satellite imagery," "satellite photos," and "nasa satellites" featured here are from NASA, JPL or
authored by Dr Edwin V. Bell, II or Calvin J. Hamilton.

These NASA Space Sounds recordings come from a variety of different sound environments:

1. From the interaction of the solar wind with the planet's magnetosphere, which releases charged ionic particles within a vibration frequency in an audible range (20-20,000 Hz).

2. NASA Space Sounds from the magnetosphere itself. The Earth recordings are the sounds that are from the Auraborialis.

3. From trapped radio waves bouncing between the planet and the inner surface of it's atmosphere.

4. NASA Space Sounds from electromagnetic field noise within space itself.

5. From charged particle interactions of the planet, it's satellites and the solar wind.

6. NASA Space Sounds from From charged particle emissions from the rings of certain planets.
