An anime where this guy gets his arm bitten off by a dragon.

There was a particular anime I watched as a kid and I wanted to finish it but I can't recall the name. The details I have of the anime are vivid but here is what I remember:

During a flashback there was this person I'm not sure who he was but he was fighting a dragon and his arm was bitten off, for some reason the dragon spared his life.

Later on in the anime the guy who fought the dragon was fighting his brother I think he had a mechanical arm that knocked his brother out using a needle on its finger tip.

The main character and his older brother both had angel like wings.

That is all I can remember any help would be awesome. Thank you.

Sounds like Escaflowne. It used to play on Fox before they switched it for the Power Rangers.

I enjoyed it. Just don't expect much levity in it. It's all a bit dark, violet and bloodsoaked.

Sounds like Fate/Stay Night to me.
I just watched it again recently, and I remember that scene.
Edit: Ah, in the rush to be helpful, I missed the part about the mechanical arm.
But there definitely is a bit with a dragon and dismemberment.

Wrong dragon scene. There was no brother, angel wings, or mechanical arm. Just terrible CGI and a bizarre replacement for the sex scene that it was in the original game.

Thanks for all the suggestions but all of them do not match what I remember. If it helps the support female character tried to hide the fact that the main character had angel wings from the main female character. That might be relevant but at first I didn't think so.

my first thought was escaflowne, and its almost certainly that. Sounds exactly right, one guy fails dragon hunt, loses arm, gets mechanical, main char his angel wings, which secondary fem char tries to keep from main fem char, what you describe sounds exactly like escaflowne

I pretty sure it is Escaflowne (a character did lost his arm to a dragon and it did spared his life). Your second description sort of match aswell (well the main male lead had angel wings but the main female character didn't).
