Go back to the TV turn the channel to the Techno music channel and turn up the volume all the way (no one can resist Techno-partys), then when the situation is defused it's party time...

Walk in casually, grab ladder, walk out. Maybe while singing some song that counters the tense atmosphere and hopefully the randomness of my actions would have them forget about what they were getting so worked up over.

i would be surprised i found a light in my house i couldn't reach or care about, im the tallest one in my house along with the youngest. but if it did happen then i would wait for the situation to cool off for awhile then go in and grab the ladder.

I would probably knock on the door, explain that the light went out, and that I need the ladder. At the same time, I'd casually ask if the meeting was going well, and point out that maybe the bulb went when they ran out of ideas.
