An idea for a way for the Wii U to take my money.

One of my favorite games for my Gamecube was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. After that game, there was one good one on the DS, and then I feel pretty confident in stating that the Wii version basically murdered the franchise. However, I think with the Wii U, there could be hope for it.

What I hope happens, but am not holding my breath for, is a remake of the Gamecube version of FFCC. Instead of Game Boy Advances, they could use the 3DS and link them to the console for each player to play. They showed they can do it with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, so it's not the technology that makes this not possible. It could be the same fun with your friends, while having the screen for your personal data and bonus sidequest request (you know, the whole "carry the lamp the most" or "do the least damage" thing). Plus, it could bring back the fun cart racing minigame and my friends and I lost hours in.

The best thing about this idea though, is that FFCC for the Wii was SOOOOO bad and happened quite a while ago, that a remake of the Gamecube one could actually pull a "most superhero movies in recent memory" and turn it into a reboot of the entire franchise, where they could take what they learned from those crummy games and NOT do that for this go around.

Well, there's my rant. Anyone with me on this, or am I alone on my island?

FF couldn't handle a remake even if their life was on the line.

Secondly, FF games are now too big for the Wii U disk space to handle (due to it not being dual layered) so ultimately in the end, such a remake would probably end up on the PS4

I like the idea, though I would prefer a FF Tactics game. I liked what I played on my stepbrother's copy of CC. Freaky giant Malboro... The need to carry around a bucket to live kinda annoyed me though.

Er, Dragon, may want to check your facts there buddy.

The Wii U Optical Disc is able to store 25GB per layer. I've no idea if the disc itself can be dual layered (I would imagine so), but 25GB is more than enough for storing game data on. If a game a huge as X can fit on a Wii U disc, then there's no reason a new CC game wouldn't be able to either.
I could of sworn I've seen some people here state that the reason why FF haven't been on Nintendo consoles since the gamecube was due to disk space not being able to contain it all.
But yeah, I 'm probably going to have to look into that.

Back in the day that was the case, and it'd take more time to try and trim things down for Square to optimize the numbered Final Fantasy games on say the GameCube. Not to mention that production costs would be more since if they didn't cut it down in size they'd have to go multi-disc, and Nintendo sets the price for their discs since Nintendo Optical discs aren't available cheap on the market, let alone on the market legally. Wii U has more of a chance since it can hold 25 GB, but we don't know the current size of games like FF XV yet so they could be using a dual layered bluesy disc.
When it comes to the HD remakes of FF X and FF X-2 it's sold separately when buying it digitally, but they come bundled together on the disc due to it being better optimized, although I don't think it'll take up as much space as 25 GB, but then again I could be wrong, I'll have to test it to see when I get the game. KH HD 1.5 ReMix on the other hand clocks in at around 35-44 GB on the disc, imported it and I'm working on an English patch for KH Final Mix on the PS2, so that's impossible to port over onto multiple systems without a bunch of tailoring and production costs, costs that Square isn't in the current financial situation to make at the time.

I don't know if the disc can be dual layered since no other Nintendo Optical Disc has been dual layered before. More than likely the reason for that was due to the fact that the Nintendo Optical drives were primarily made by only Nintendo back then and it could be that attempts at dual layering the discs wasn't feasible because the drive would recognize it. The Bluray drive that the PS3 and PS4 have on the other hand were devised to read large filed Bluray discs already so the switch from people using single to dual layered was easy. This of course is excluding possible cost factors, so it could also have been that there wasn't really a cheap way for Nintendo to dual layer the discs at the time. I'm sure Panasonic could help and try to dual layer the discs since it's a modified Bluray disc, but the problem lies more in getting the Nintendo Optical drive to recognize and propperly read the discs themselves.

As for another CC game, while I'd love one, I don't see Square doing one. Mainly because the first one lost Square money for 3 years back on the GCN, which is why they stopped supporting the GameCube after 3 years, because they were only losing money while the PS2 was helping them break even. Once XI came on the scene then they started making profits, and that's why Square is still supporting FF XI on PC, because it's the most profitable FF ever. As for X by Monolith being able to fit that's because Monolith is used to working with the disc restraints and hardware limitations, while Square no longer is because they're used to PC, PS3, and Xbox and Square has the tendencies to not want to cut content from ports of JRPGs, at least they used too.

Edit: 2 things on my end, one the fact that I was able to type that so well with just an iPod Touch 3rd gen impresses me. Two, I've already been Ninja'd when it comes to FF XIV and let me just say that I really loved playing the beta when I tried it on the PS3, felt nice.

Oh and personally I think that SEGA should use that last exclusive they have up their sleeve on making an HD full on remake of Skies of Arcadia Legends because that game is an unappreciated gem that I know would get many people to buy a Wii U. Seriously, it had a great story, great gameplay, music was eargasmic, and had a decent ending (ending was probably my least favorite thing). Please SEGA, make an HD remake of the game! Please? :D

Smash Brawl was actually dual-layered, I remember the drama(small) when either certain sku's of the Wii(Or just a damaged lens, can't remember) couldn't read the discs. Found a list actually but not sure how correct it is.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid Other M
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Samurai Warriors 3
Raving Rabbids Collection
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Story
Samurai Warriors 3 Z

Eh. Despite owning a Vita, I find myself rather opposed to the idea of peripheral handhelds.

Or maybe it's because I remember the linkup only being designed to work for the original awful GBA, and not any of the better versions.

After checking yes it seems that Brawl was dual layered. Although that is still a very small amount of games that actually used Dual Layers for the discs, and the Wii Optical Disc seems to be the only one to ever be dual layered. Like I said, if Panasonic can work on it since they helped Nintendo with the Wii U's Optical disc then it's possible for it to be dual layered, but that probably won't be until way later in it's life span. The PS3 didn't start dual layering games probably until around late 09 to mid-2010 because there needs to be a cheap way at writing the games coding to the dual layered discs and for the drives to read them. Sony has it easier since they just use standard Bluray drives, but since Nintendo creates their own hardware, mainly so then they can control the pricing of the discs so that they aren't available on the free market, they have a much harder time at doing so. But Panasonic if given time can create a dual layered disc for the Wii U I'm sure.

Remember, guys, I'm not asking them to really make a new FFCC game...maybe reboot wasn't the right word. I'd take a straight port from the GameCube version, and have them change the controller compatibility from Game Boy Advance to 3DS. The graphics on the GameCube one are still pretty good and it was just a blast to play.
