an incident which puts you off a game

im talking about any minor incident which has happened to YOU and YOU only that really puts you off a game and noone can understand why. ive got 2 examples (fortunatly one was a demo)

1) i was playing the demo of mirrors edge, a game hated by many (but not for the same reasons as me), i climbed up this ladder to find a squad strength force. the game encourages the player to use the free-running elements to avoid the squad BUT i had other plans, i had learned that you could activate slo-mo and slide in and disarm and opponent, i done this successfully and decided to use this gun (SMG) i had aquired to kill the rest of the squad in one epic matrixesque slo-mo move but my plan was ruined as my stupid character through away a fully loaded SMG and decided to go un-armed against an entire squad, needless to say i was defeated in a very embarrassing way

2) i was playing GTA IV and i had to take this woman out on a date so she likes me so i can progress with the missions, i had a really cool motorbike that i thought id use to zip through busy new york traffic and get the tedium over with quicker so i could get some cool missions with gunfights and helicopters. the date went successfully and i had to take her home on my motorbike when i hit a fire hydrant at full speed and she fell off and i couldnt repeat the date for until a few days had passed (real-time) this got me so pissed off i stopped playing for a week or so

EDIT: example 3) i was playing borderlands and i got like a level 30ish soldier with an excellent weapon on every class and my save file got corrupted ive never went back to it since because i know ill never recreate that character again

I agree with the mirrors edge one. I was really enjoying the first person parkour when my pc would freeze up at the same spot every time. Updated drivers, reinstalled, reformatted. Tried everything but it would not work for some reason. Stopped playing for about a month then tried it on XP and it worked fine.

Minecraft, when I finish building my epic castle fort wall thing that I spent hours working on, when a Creeper creeps up behind me and detonates.

I come back after respawning and find my castle fort wall thing demolished. Sure as hell put me off... for about 5 minutes before I determinedly started to rebuild my wall and hopefully make it Creeper-proof

I couldn't get past the bit in Half Life 2 where you have to defend yourself against a lot of combine soldiers with the help of some sentries. I got so frustrated I didn't play it for weeks.

Passed the section with ease the first time I came back to it.

Half Life 2 poison headcrabs and poison zombies which throw the suckers at you. I literally can't play levels that I know are infested with them. Even one or two is enough...their sight and sound freak me out badly.
It has kinda tainted my enjoyment of playing the game as a whole and it doesn't help that I've lost my completed game save file either.

Meh no biggie. So I just stick to Portal nowadays heh

That was on a really old computer however. My new one will run crysis 2 on ultra with 160 fps.

theres a bit when you get abushed by a couple guys who steal all your gear/money. after killing them both with the pistol and 20 bullets left beind, i recover my stuff. but not my money. money is hard to get in CS, and armour and guns are high maintenance. then i lose the 120000 i had collected, quite a bit
couldnt face it after that

OP - If that pissed you off, you best not bother playing the rest of gta4, it gets a lot more annoying than that. Try Saints Row 2; same kind of thing but better; just not as good looking.

For me, the appearance of a QTE usually turns me off instantly.

I was walking around with over 100k, I received the little achievement for my money. I was playing on the Master Difficulty as well.

12k is chump change. That's like one artifact. :|

i stop liking a game when everyone starts doing the same thing...

i hated halo 3 because... well... assualt rifle was far too good... nobody bothered with any other weapons, besides maybe battle rifle... got very boring, very fast... and when you try and break the monotomy by say, using a needler, you die.

a similar situation is Soulcalibur VI... everyone plays mitsu-fucking-rugi, astaroth and ivy... which is yeah... boring... but i can usually beat them with my amy, taki, rock, talim, you name it... so i really like soulcalibur...

i hated fable 2 because, in the back of my mind, i knew that every person out there was wearing a highwayman's coat...

its that sort of thing that puts me off... which is why i hate all FPSes... theyre all the same, and theres not a single interesting thing about any of them, except Shadowrun.

oh i liked the game, ive since completed it. i might think about getting SR2, its 2 years old now so it should be in the bargain basement. aparantly its really fun

yeah, that happened to me ages ago on Just Cause (the first one). I woke up one morning, and started collecting those little blue dot collectable items hidden everywhere. 4 Hours later, and I was almost done, then the game completely freezes on me. I realise I haven't saved, I am angry for the rest of the day. And I haven't played it since... played JC2 though its awesome.

Dynasty Warriors 5.

The largest and hardest mission (Wu Zhang Plains) contains one of the coolest Lvl 5 weapons in the game. After completing the nessessary requirements (which involves running back and forth across the map like a fool looking for a contact lense) the box finally appeared. I was running out of time considerably fast and i figured charging to the Main boss immediately after collecting the weapon would be my only option. I charged on horseback straight for the enemy base hacking as i went. After a gruelling fight, he was nearly defeated- only for me to remember that i forgot the goddam weapon! After hopping BACK on Red Hare I 'fled' as a better term. Not copping on how close the enemy was to my base, headed BACK to Sima Yi (the baddass) and beat him up a bit more. He would have died with about 15 seconds remaining- if his men hadn't killed my leader a second before Sima did!

Awesome game, damn hard mission.

You think thats bad? My tower got blown up about three times. The last time there was (I kid you not) about 3 creepers all running after me and they taken out the whole bottom floor of my building. After that I actually spent ages just building a massive outer wall covered in torches, creepers are bastards.

you misunderstand - i didnt lose 12k, i lost 120k
and we must have different play styles. in SoC i had no need for money, as i found all the ammo i needed and sold what i didnt. weapons couldnt be repaired anyway and armour basically didnt degrade. in CS, weapon sdegrade very quickly, and my armour got shredded by grenades
