The moments the disks/cartridge waits for the best chance to ruin your day.

I was running through Silent Hill 3. I defeated Sammael with only melee weapons and basked in my victory when the game froze on me in the screen you get after defeating him.

Fallout 3. Leveled up 10(ish) times and did a lot of exploring in 1 sitting and then it froze on me.

Pokemon does this to me as well a few times. Cath a lot of pokemon I want, level them up a lot and crashes without me saving.

It gives me an angry face. >_<

One time it crashed on me, mid-saving. Corrupted game = not fun.

I had just beaten ME2 and kept everybody alive, and it crashed, and I couldn't remember what I did, so I killed 4 people. It made me sad.

Ooh, what kind of corruption? The famous "can't save" glitch? There's an awesome fix for that...

I was playing fallout 3 and had done a few things in broken steel but didn't save so then the game froze when I was attacked by a bunch of ghoul reavers that came out of nowhere... I lost almost an hour of gameplay!

Spending an hour or so sorting inventory, buying gear, and shopping in Dragon Age only to have the power go out... controller almost went flying.

At least it autosaves.
Never get to used to autosave actually helping though. It autosaved on me when I had almost no health and next to no ammo after falling into a sewer full of death claws! Not good.

OT: FF8 crashed while saving. Corrupted 100+ hour game file gone :(

Diablo 2, back when I had a crappy Celeron that struggled with most games back then. I'd finally reached Hell difficulty Diablo all by myself, we were engaged in an epic battle that took about an hour of slowly whittling down his health and dodging his lethal lightning. I could tell the computer was suffering cause the frame rate was getting lower and lower. I finally killed him...

and then the game froze on me. It was just stuck, Diablo's glorious death animation frozen, gloating, all that lovely Hell level loot just out of reach.

My keyboard died that day.

I finally finished Mexico in RDR, and hadn't saved in quite some time... and then the game froze on me.

I'd just fought my way through half of City 17 in a 3 hour Half Life 2 binge. I had waded through radioactive acid, shot dozens of those little sawblade robots, killed enough soldiers to re-enact fucking D-DAY, and heard the phrase "Reload, Dr. Freeman!" so many times that if I ever hear it out loud again, It'll probably trigger a psychotic break.

I had finally completed the level and watched as Dog opened up the way into the Citadel. I was exhausted, yet still exited. I dropped into the tunnel and, with perfect comedic timing....well, you know.

EDIT: Oh, also:

Bonus for the reference. (Hint: It's not the movie that clip is from. That would be too easy.)

EDIT AGAIN: Never mind, it's been guessed.

this is why auto save needs to be implemented to every game made. played fallout 3 for about 4 hours and boom there goes the ol' reliable Xbox 360.

In Red Dead Redemption, as you are gingerly guiding the cart of explosives into the prison door, the resulting explosion was just too much for the xbox to handle.

Being a primarily PC gamer, I've had quite a few game freezes over the years, but this had to be the most epic.

Now this was a long time ago in those draconian years before the internet, so we didn't have gamefaqs or anything to look up secrets and guides and etc. So, my friend and I where doing what we often did on the weekend and were playing games. This particular day we were playing Mortal Kombat 2 on the SNES.

We were both pretty good, but he was clearly better and would win probably 3/4 of our matches. Well, this day I really wasn't feeling it, and wasn't trying hardly at all. We were talking about something far more interesting than the game and I was mostly just randomly button mashing and not paying attention in the slightest. Well anyway, I had managed to get myself defeated 50 times in a row.

That is when the special song starts playing and it said on screen "Incredible winning streak! A new warrior awaits you!" We looked at each other shocked and confused and excited. Soon later the screen faded to black. And stayed black. The match was never to be. We just sat there, waiting for something cool to happen, for at least five minutes before we gave up and one of us reset the console.

We then decided to try and just take turns beating on player 2 until we reproduced the 50 wins, but eventually gave up somewhere due to boredom in the high teens.
