Anime that deserve a reboot with a longer run time

It makes me want to beat my head against the wall when an anime only has a 12 episode run when the manga ran for 100+ chapters or if the anime had great potential.

Example: Elfen Lied
The anime was okay, but I was bored so I read the manga. I CRIED AT THE END They could have had this manga become a stellar anime, if only they would have given it enough time to actually follow the story of the manga. I know that they hadn't finished the manga when the anime series started, but I would rather them go on hiatus for half a year instead of turning it into crap.

Another example: Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou
Okay, this anime hasn't ended yet, it's only on it's 6th episode, but it has only been picked up for 12 episodes. After only 6 episodes, it has risen to become my favorite anime series. The story goes that it is the future, and there is magic, magical academies, etc , etc, we've heard it all before. Sai Akuto is a transfer student to the world's largest magical academy. His life's ambition is to help all of mankind and hopes to become a high priest after graduating. At the academy there is an oracle that predicts your future occupation with a 100% accuracy rate. After predicting things like "Soldier", "Doctor", "Teacher" for the people in front of Akuto, it is his turn. The oracle hesitates and says "... Demon Lord". His destiny is to become a Demon Lord like the previous one, who nearly destroyed all of society a hundred years before. He spends the series trying to be a good person and fighting his future, despite being under constant watch from the government, having a portion of the student body trying to assassinate him, a group of dark mages trying to recruit him, and becoming the unwilling master of the previous Demon Lord's dragon. I think that this is the best anime ever, and was crushed when I learned that it will only last 12 episodes.

So, what anime series do you think deserves a longer run or reboot?

EDIT: ROFL Ninja'd half the people who responded with Elfen Lied

You just outright stole my answer. Damn you. By the way, they started Elfen Lied when the manga wasn't yet completed, so that's why it ended early and so differently. They really need to stop doing that.

Cowboy Bebop

Hell, even if it continued on without any of the main characters and just follows some other bounty hunters set in the same universe, it could at the very least be entertaining. Hell make each season based off a different musical taste or something!

You stole mine, I was going to say Elfen Lied. Needs more time to tell the story.

Mahou Sensei Negima seriously the manga is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!! and the anime sucks balls. Right now there making ova's based on a part of the manga, but seriously if the anime followed the manga it would have been a long running anime that I would actually watch. Oh and Rosario Vampire same reason as Negima.

Cowboy Bebop is fine as is. There were already a few episodes dangerously on the edge of being mere filler. But ultimately it gave great closure and I reckon Watanabe knows better than to mess with that.

I still live in hope that Berserk will one day be picked up and continued.

(this is my first post so forgive any mistakes)
There are a few animes I could name, one of the two main candidates in my mind are
Soul Eater: One of my favorite manga of all time(and anime up til things went crazy), I think if they were given a regular series it could become a very popular anime.

Air Gear: again my second favorite anime atleast it stayed faithful to the managa until it was scrapped and it doesn't need a reboot as much as it needs to be able to keep going even fithe recent stuff is abit too much of a "omg rocket powered rollerskaters control the world"I still think it would be worth it just for the action scenes.

Welcome to the escapist! I love Soul Eater and actually had Soul as my avatar for awhile. The anime went "snooka-loopy" following Asura's revival.

Definitely agreeing with Trigun and Bebop. There was so much that could be done!

I'd also love to see more of The Wallflower, and maybe Excel Saga (although the ending did work beautifully there).

Yeah, they kinda screwed the pooch on that one. The whole "Asuna's pact with the ogres" was, for lack of a more elegant word, retarded.

Efen Lied is a given. I would at least like to know weather it was Nuu/Lucy at the door. I watched it with my friend, Kathy and we were both like "WTF? Where is the next season? There MUST be a next season!". Oh, well. At least it was fun while it lasted.

I'd also like to see another season of the ADV redub of Gakkou no Kaidan. That shit be funny, yo.
I hate that most good anime is so short lived. That's not to say all good anime is short lived. Bleach, case and point.

Welcome to the Escapist. DO. NOT. GO. IN. THE. BASEMENT.

OT: I kind of feel like putting FLCL on the list, but I feel that it would degrade if the series lasted much longer.

Groove Adventure Rave: Yes, it was a shounen series, complete with battles that last for five episodes and melodrama it was just starting to get going when they canned it. My understanding is that the manga actually finishes the story, but I haven't be able to get hold of it yet.

DEATHNOTE

Sorry anime fans, but that's the only manga that doesn't annoy the crap out of me.

Strange you'd say that, because death note went down the drain (somewhat) in season 2. Any more would really have been overkill. I think it could have been about 12 episodes shorter and it would have been better for it.

Anyway, my vote goes to claymore, which rushed to finish when it caught up with the manga, and gave the worst series closure since Elfen lied. Such a great series too...

I know of a few anime's that probably went on too long, but not many that were too short for their own good. But, i'll go ahead and throw my hat into the arena to say that a prequel bit to Bebop might have been pretty cool. Perhaps only 1-2 episodes or something, who knows? Either way, i'm happy with that series in general.

I disagree, the anime/manga ended right where they should have. Extending the second arc in my mind would feel too forced, even near the end it felt pushy to me.

OP? You forgot to mention how incredibly ecchi the series is, thats a bit important to new anime goers to not get discouraged by the amount of panties shown and quite literally a sea cucumber being jerked and spewing "sticky" white stuff over a female character. I love the series to death but sometimes they take the pervertedness too far...that being said my favourite episode so far has two samurai chicks fighting nude in a hot spring(There is blockers for the naughty bits don't worry).

Peterhousen still remains one of the best characters ever, and Sai gets awesome points for fist fighting a dragon.

OT: There hasn't been an anime I have watched so far that hasn't been continued or given a good ending so I cannot say anything on this matter. Even Ichiban no mater how awesome it is is moving quite quickly and I think it's working well with the increased pace, be a shame when it ends but it's gearing up to be a good end. A good end to me is more important, if it ends on a bad note you have a sour taste in your mouth when remembering things that were great.
