Another 3DS question thread.

Alright, well I see two 2DS/3DS related threads on here currently and I too am considering getting a 3DS. Just a normal one, not the XL or the 2DS. My question is related to the games available for the 3DS. I have some DS games, and I am VERY curious about X/Y because I've heard a lot of people say they're the best in the series, but I'd rather not pay 140-160$ for a Pokemon machine. The only other game I'm really interested in for the 3DS currently is Fire Emblem: Awakening. I just can't justify forking out that kind of money as a poor college student who just bought a PS4 for 2 games. Are there any other games that people would recommend the could help me justify buying one?

I also have Fire Emblem and it is quite worth the price of a 3DS. The game is just amazing in every way. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is also a very fun game to get for the 3DS. So with Pokemon X/Y and these games you got 3.

Sweet, yeah actually a couple friends of mine have been playing Monster Hunter and they said it's pretty good.

The 3DS already has a quality library of games. Some I've played are:

Super Mario 3D Land: a 3D platformer with tight controls and a surprisingly long campaign.

Kid Icarus Uprising: an action game that's half on-rails rollercoaster shooter and half beat-em-up. Beware of hand cramps.

Ocarina of Time 3D: a remake of the classic N64 Zelda adventure. Looks and feels great, especially with the 3D on.

Fire Emblem Awakening: a turn-based strategy game with an excellent cast of characters and great gameplay. Absolutely fantastic, especially if you get the FE 3DS bundle.

As far as the DS library, there's:

Chrono Trigger DS: a DS remake of the SNES classic time travelling RPG. I was just playing this over Christmas. Really good stuff.

Kirby Super Star Ultra: a DS remake of another SNES classic, this time a platformer about swallowing people to take their powers.

The World Ends With You: a fantastic JRPG that really can't be explained with words. It has a really strange premise, but it is done very well.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania Portrait of Ruin and Castlevania Order of Ecclesia: platformer action games with fun Metroidesque progression and an insane difficulty level (Especially OoE).

Long list short, the library on the DS and 3DS will keep you busy for ages. For the price, I don't regret buying my 3DS at all.

Fire Emblem is well worth the price of the 3DS. I originally bought my 3DS as a Pokemon machine last year but between FE:A, Pokemon X&Y and Animal Crossing (seriously, it's OCD in a game) I'm more than happy with my machine

Yeah, I was skeptical as hell before getting a 3DS but I don't regret it one bit. Pokemon X/Y alone are worth it, but it has a lot of other games I'll probably recommend once I get 'round to getting more of them too.
Though I would strongly recommend you get an XL, the screen and sound quality on that thing are amazing.

Well, it depends on what kind of games you like. If you like JRPGs, then you will probably find that there is a lot to love on the 3DS.
Since I'm not 100% sure what to recommend though, I'll just list my 3DS games and give them some shitty descriptions:
Animal Crossing New Leaf(Animal Crossing, but you're the Mayor)
Devil Survivor Overclocked(SMT + Chess + Teens)
Etrian Odyssey IV(Traditional JRPG, first person dungeouns, you make your own maps, doesn't hold your hand)
Fire Emblem Awakening(Anime + Adults + War + Chess + relationships + kids)
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance(Kingdom Hearts, but with air parkour)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates of Infinity(If Pokemon vomited all over a chess board)
Project X Zone(Probably the biggest multi IP crossover game ever, features characters from Tales to Resident Evil)
Pokemon Y(Pokemon, but with diagonal movement and 3D)
hin Megami Tensei IV(Demonic Apocalypse, you control demons and make them fight for you, you get to change the world as you see fit to be "just", "chaotic", or neutral)
Tales of the Abyss(JRPG + Real-time Instance Combat + Teens/Adult + Politics)

I'm definitely enjoying all of these games a lot, and I just ordered Sonic Lost Worlds as well, and from what I have heard, Monster Hunter for the 3DS is quite good as well.

There's also a visual novel/puzzle game called "Zero Escape: Virtues last reward" It's pretty great if you're into those kinds of games.

Obviously the ones everyone seems to be talking about: Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Devil Summoner Overclocked, Project X Zone, Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies... not to mention an impressive library of games available from the e-shop, including and especially the classic NES and Gameboy games, and its full backwards compatibility with DS games.

Keep in mind the upcoming releases as well, such as Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Bravely Default (a surprising new JRPG).
