Anyone seen this?

https://youtu.be/z6XbEvinUYM

Already got Jim Sterling commenting on it, TB's noticed....

Asset flipping is a slowly growing pustule on the gaming worlds body. I feel for this guy, if as he says he was trying to make people aware of what they would possibly be purchasing.

Tsch... shame on them.

To be fair, if google got their shit together with monitoring Youtube properly this wouldn't be an issue. The fact that the automated system allows scumbag devs to abuse content creators is more the problem that the devs themselves.

Google doesn't have to implement a monitoring system on Youtube. Jim Sterling said it best in his video. These developers see it as a quick and easy way of hiding bad publicity, the problem is that they are too stupid too see that by hitting one Youtube artist with a take down they will just encourage 3 others to take up the mantle in their place, and once the two weeks are done and the video is back up the original publisher will hit them with both barrels on top of now having more support that they had prior to the take down. The big issue is that their is no counter punishment for these developers when they issue the take down and then utterly fail to back it up with official action. If the folk issuing the take down had to pay the value of lost ad revenue to the original video creator for the two weeks the video is down then it would kill fatuous take down notices over night.

Title of this post evokes the image of the nerdiest gang war ever.

So what is it this time? Some special snowflake developer being unable to handle critics doing their job? Some prat attempting to make a quick buck taking down a video for calling them on their shit? Or some new form of stupidity?

From what I heard, the same song and dance; it's nothing new here. The stupidity is even the same.

Oh well, at least these guy(s) aren't dumb enough (yet) to take it to court, or to think they can subpoena strong-arm a vastly bigger company like Valve into selling out their customers. One might even call that self-inflicted digital homicide stupid.

Yes. Just ... yes. From now on, this is my mental image for these situations.

I read one comment that seemed interesting. The commenter had been to a REALLY crappy game design school, probably one of the sham schools out there. He said the teacher/professor encouraged asset flipping since it saved time and money, and it was pretty clear that this "educator" couldn't care less about gaming or the game industry.

So, according to the commenter, these crummy game developers may simply be a product of crummy game design schools that trick them into thinking they're cut out for game design. If anything it would explain their unfounded hurt pride when people let them know how bad their games are.

Still, those have to be some powerful rose-tinted glasses if they cannot see how bad their games are, even in the face of actual criticism.

Using pre-made assets is not, in itself, a bad thing. You can indeed save a lot of time and money, and we don't need every rock or tree in every indie game to be made by the developer. It's only an issue when you make nothing yourself, especially if you can't even fix the bugs because you don't even know how to program in Unity.

Even AAA developers license a ton of middleware to save time on the programming side.
