...Do you get harrassed for being a girl in online matches? I do know that girls get hit on a lot or called a noob for being a girl, but does it really happen as often as it is rumored? I am not trying to defend those idiots nor I am calling anybody a lier, but this is the internet, and things like that often can get blown out of proportion. So, is all the rumors about girls being treated like dogs online true, and what do you girls do when you find somebody who is treating you like that?

Not a girl, but every time I see a girl on Team Fortress 2 with a mic she's made fun of a lot. However, it's all in good nature and the girl usually isn't offended.

I don't see the uproar with female gamers.

Female gamers are just male gamers that're female to be totally frank.

Most people you play online you probably assume to be male. Many people without microphones that you've been against could've been a girl.

I know one though, she doesn't get harrassed.

Well, it's true that people hit on girls ALL the time. They don't know me, I don't think they even care, they just see my profile pic and assume I'm really hot, and they know I play video games so they hit on me Oo.

People don't harass me in in-game situations tho. The reason for this is that they don't know for sure if I'm a girl or not. Plenty of guys play girl characters or use girly nicknames in games, so for me to do it doesn't actually single me out as one. And as for in-game voice chat, I usually use ventrilo with my clan-mates and nothing else. When I do use the in-game voip I only ocationally get the "oh snap, your a girl!" comment. People doesn't seem to mind. It doesn't mean people won't get mad when I blow their brains all over the wall tho =3.

If someone treats me badly (or "like a dog"...) I'll get back at them, depending on how they go about putting me down. If someone in an FPS assumes I suck at the game and joke around with me a lot with it I will make it my single purpose in said game to find and kill that person as many times as possible. And I'm quite good at doing just that (my favorite thing in FPS is hunting snipers, it's what I do and what I do best), so I tend to be successful. If the guy bugging me is better than me I'll just try and ignore him, and if he is just too annoying I'll leave the damn server. YES, I am a person that leaves if I'm not enjoying myself. I'm playing for MY entertainment, not yours...

And NO, I do NOT find you attractive *insert name* and I do NOT want to see your man-parts! Don't ask cause you don't know me... We can be online friends, but I do NOT want to date anyone! Unless we meet in real life... And your a nice guy... With loads of money, awesome cars and a penthouse*ahem*, no thats not me.

I really think female gamers should be a welcomed thing.

Hear that guys? Women actually like games. Some of you might have a chance.

Just sayin'.

I've played with plenty of female gamers, and it's rare that I see them get made fun of.

Although when they do, they usually seem completely capable.

When I actually meet a girl that plays any FPS I'll ask them. I know one girl with Wii sports and Wii fit but personally I don't think that counts, not because it's a Wii but because to me they're not proper video games.

Seriously though, it can't just be me who refuses to acknowledge their existence...

;)

Not too much, and when I do it's usually just my friends joking around with me. Then again, I only have a PS3/PC right now and there are still a large number of people on the PS3 who don't have mics. I don't know if it's any worse on Live.

It is, but only because 90% of the live population are about 12. Slightly ironic in that they all sound female. Meh.

Im a guy - Funny story recently.

Ok, There was a girl in the MW2 lobby, And she sounded like a 13 year old boy - The entire lobby was getting pissed off with the bitching, So some told "him" to stfu. She said she was a girl, and they started joking with her.

She was REALLY annoying. REALLY REALLY annoying. I enjoyed killing her repeatedly in-game.

True this. It seems like internet people is slightly less douche-bagish when girls are around =3. Too bad there is no sure way to show people that I am one so they will calm down =3

Does it really matter what sex you are when you're playing a game?

I see so many gametags like "cuteprincess1555" and "imagirl1434" that it really starts to annoy the hell out of me. Should I start going by "awesomeguy134376"?

(Only a related note, I appreciate all you girls out there that don't have usernames like in the examples I gave.)

It has happened to me, but only a few times. While the reason is dumber, I doubt I've been harassed more than any male gamer.

People online tend to be assholes when they get the chance, it's that simple.

I tend to prefer not using a mic, though. There'll always be someone who can't get over the fact that I'm not a guy, and that does get old pretty damn fast.

Do you prefer to not speak in lobbies then?

Also, if I was a girl gamer, I think I'd get more pissed at the insane amount of people asking about their experiences than the experiences themselves.

Girls dont use those nicks, guys that want people to think their girls do XD. Thats my opinion anyway. I dont see why they would use those nicks. My nicks tend to be something new from game to game, In Battlefield 2 for example my nick is Nekomata32. Nothing determining my gender there =3.

First of all I only play games on my PC, I own no consoles. And no, I don't speak in lobbies. People are dicks no matter what gender you are in lobbies, and the only game I play with such a lobby is MW2 (where people are dicks!) =3. I'll use my voip in a squad in Battlefield 2 and 2142 tho.
