I'm sure there's already been a deluge of StarCraft 2 reviews and since its been 3 weeks since it's release, this is late anyway, but I've written several text reviews and have been wanting to make a video for thim. Since I don't own a video camera, I decided to do a clip art style review, similar to the technique Yahtzee uses. As fans of his work, does it seem like I'm just ripping off his stuff or is the content itself original enough? Thanks for the feedback!
I found the rant about cutscenes to be a bit unwarranted. I personally have no problem with a lot of cutscenes (MGS4 fan talking). Other than that, it was a very solid review and you even had me laughing once or twice.
More importantly, it's good to see someone else doing video reviews here on the Escapist. It does seem a bit too much like a Yahtzee clone though.
First of all, you should try to do something a bit different with the art style. Try making the background more dynamic as opposed to just a solid color. That might make it look less like a ripoff of Zero Punctuation.
Also, try not to talk so fast. It just makes it sound like you're imitating him, on top of the similar art style.
Beyond all that, I'd say it's a very good start. You certainly make a good reviewer, you just need to d a bit more work finding you own style.
Note: I also recommend embedding the video as opposed to just posting a link. It makes the thread look better.
I originally talked that fast because I wanted to keep the video at around five minutes, but now I see I can talk at normal speed and still stay within that time limit. Thanks again for the comments and criticisms, I'll try to work on that in the future.

Ain't it kinda hypocritical to praise Red Alert 2, which thrived on the cheesily glorious ham-acted cutscenes and stereotypical over-the-top voice overs it was particularly renown for at the time, and then hate Starcraft 2 for having much the same thing? Especially when, again, Starcraft was known for its Cutscenes as well. It's a well-known trope of the genre, and of all the things to mention it just seems, well, silly! As for the medic thing, need I remind you that...
And what's more perplexing is you literally spend the entire review bashing the game, then recommended it? WHY? Everything else indicates you absolutely loathe the game with a fervor that would make Future Hero with the anti-Starcraft AV above me proud. And then for no explicable reasons you recommendation the game, it just comes outta nowhere and makes no sense in the context of absolutely everything else you said about the game. If you like the game, even grudgingly, explain why. And if you don't then take a stand and say so, because otherwise it seems like you're nitpicking for the sake of it. Your review was purely negative, and yet you recommend it, just doesn't make sense!
That said you've got a better voice for these things than most people, and while I don't always agree with you, you make valid complaints. I'd say keep at it! I didn't agree with you in this case, obviously, but bluntly put I actually watched the clip fully which is more than I can say for most every other internet review out there which tend to be just plain bad. Keep refining your technique and I can see potential. It also might be wise to move away from the 'fast talking clip-art' segment because frankly no matter what you do, it'll draw comparisons and what'd be better is if you forged your own niche.
I wasn't criticizing the quality of the cutscenes (they're quite good; you really could cut them into a movie), just the quantity. And believe me, I feel very similarly about Red Alert 3 as I do about StarCraft 2.
I get what you're saying about tearing down the game only to recommend it, and it's mainly because a) I wanted it to be funny (hence, enjoyable) to watch and that's a lot easier to do when you pick out all the little crap that bothers you and b) there are plenty of reviews heaping lavish praise on StarCraft 2, so I wanted to point out some of things that really needed to be fixed.

I don't find the difficulty curve that big but well I was was ranked B+ on iccup so no matter what I do my hand enrages and goes into 100+ apm mode ...
EDIT: Take less from yahtzee, be yourself. Video was nice and actually pointed a few annoying things: others just bash the game because it makes their e-peens feel bigger.
Yes, it's a Yahtzee-style review but it's one of the best I've seen. Most others try to copy him exactly, complete with a terrible English accent. It's more inspired by Yahtzee, than blatantly ripping him off. Good work!
I don't totally agree with what you say in the review though, but I see where you're coming from, and you back up your arguments with examples.
I'd definitely watch more of your reviews if you made them.
