Desperatly looking for filler until the fall, I decided I would give the endless free trial of Warhammer Online a try. From level 1-10 it was probably the most fun I've had in an MMO despite my preference for PVE to PvP. After getting a month subscription and venturing into the higher level zones, it felt empty and imbalanced. This is not a problem developers can fix on their own. Warhammer has become the game it was meant to be, it only needs people to storm the keeps and defend them. I don't intend to sound like shameless advertising, I'm just a gamer who found a game he really likes and encourages others to take another look at it.

Warhammer 40k, is getting an MMO in 2013 too thugh! so that should bring some interest as I think that has more of a fanbase than Warhammer Fantasy.

I'm going to be a bit of an elitist here but WAR isn't really Warhammer anymore.

I realise that some lore will have to be sacrificed in order to produce a fun and playable game but the moment you allow Skaven to ally with Dwarfs and High Elves you've crossed a line in my book.

For me that was just a horrible move in a desperate attempt to draw fans. It'd be like attaching a pair of breasts to Master Chief's armor. Sure, breasts are awesome and Master Chief is awesome. But don't combine them in that way....

That would be the right way to do it.

I mean literally Master Chief with a pair of breasts photoshopped onto his chest (not even inside the armour). That's what Skaven and Dwarven allies feel like to me.

I played that game from release and loved it; still, in my opinion, the best PvP game to hit the market since DAoC. The scenarios were a blast, I used to have a Hell of a lot of fun playing "warband leader" in tiers 2, 3, and 4 back when the population supported taking keeps, holding keeps, etc.

The main problem for me was simply one of population. A PvP game like that needs players, and I leveled my characters fully on PvP without once bothering with the PvE content offered. (The PvP, for me, was the compelling reason to play the game - team based RvR is what I find to be the most fun, period.) The game suffered from lack of a 3rd faction as DAoC had and later it simply suffered from being empty.

As you say, it's not really a lot of fun to get through tiers 2 and 3 anymore. Tier 1 is fine and Tier 4 has the diehards but 2 and 3... you can hear the crickets chirping.
