Alright, I can understand them being on most TV channels, I don't have a problem. Certain websites even, sure. But as of 10 seconds ago they have gone too far in my book.

Ok, it's almost midnight where I am and I just remembered "AWESOME! New One Piece!" so I go to the site I watch it at and hit play. I'm used to seeing a Verizon or Sprint ad. But what comes up? That's right folks, a kid friendly DON'T DO METH.
Now, I understand that we need to be teaching kids not to do meth, but ONE PIECE!? Has it gotten so bad that their putting Anti-Meth ads on anime websites run by Funimation? I mean, the target audience of the dubbed episodes probably doesn't even know what meth IS. And how is seeing a commercial with a girl talking all depressing and dumping a body out of her car going to benefit them? I mean come ON. These commercials are on every damn channel. A shit ton of websites. But now their going to strike a children's anime? I just couldn't believe it.

And yes, I realize I'm saying I watch what I would call a childish anime, but it was WAY more intended for 7 year olds when it first started. And guess what's dubbed on that site? The older episodes. I just think it's ridiculous. What are your thoughts?

Adds are everywhere. Oh and well it makes sense, if they wanted to target children, then might as well do it on sites they visit, eh?

I think it's people's business what they put in their bodies, as long as they know the effects.
I tend to agree with you, but people on the really hard drugs like ice, heroine and whatnot are prime examples of anti-social behaviour. Theft is extremely common amongst addicts, as is violence and other illegal activities that have societal ramifications.

You think this is too far?
On my way to home from the subway, there is a billboard anti-smoking ad which shows a woman cutting herself.
I am not kidding, I actually had to look away.
It's pretty graphic.

I agree. Is it was pot I would laugh and move on but Meth is nothing to mess with. Nothing like a little cleaner, pesticides, and mass amount of cold medicine running in the veins.

It's understandable what the intentions of the government are but I think this sort of thing goes a bit too far. Though frankly I think the nostalgia critic said it best

I agree with this. I think the ads altogether are a waste. It's just like sex. Parents need to talk to their kids about it, not ignore the entire matter.

A connection between my post and your topic or between cutting yourself and smoking?
If the first, I just wanted to show you that your example is understandable and not that shocking because there are far worse PSAs.
If the second, it was something about smoking endangering your life and the tagline: What do you mean "I don't care"?
It was fucking gross. There was also one with a baby getting tortured with cigarettes.

True... Maybe just educate people on how not to be a prick? I don't know how to get around that one really. Legalise hard drugs, but the only money that is acceptable to pay for them comes directly from your job? Idunno. Nice idea but not very practical.
The thing with harder drugs (it also happens with alcohol, not sure about pot, haven't researched so much) is that they re-wire your brain so if you don't get the necessary chemicals, you start to have physical repercussions. This is withdrawal, and it's very dangerous and painful. If you had the option of either:
A) Applying for a job, getting a job (assuming you don't already have one), and working the job for cash to pay for your drugs (which will almost definitely interfere with your ability to work) or,
B) Steal someone's TV, sell it to a pawn shop, and buy drugs.

Which would you do? Keeping in mind that not taking drugs (without rehab) is very painful, and possibly lethal. It's not so much an issue of being a prick as it is an issue of having no other options. The only option for the government is to enforce the illegality of 'hard drugs'.

Pot has been linked to schizophrenia and stuff (unproven, so don't ***** at me for this), but then again, alcohol has been proven to cause numerous problems, both physical and mental. I don't really care about people doing pot, even though it can also have the societal repercussions I mentioned earlier, but people who use what I call 'hard drugs' sicken me.

Keep in mind that this isn't using medical lingo, and it's a rather overly-simplified explanation, but there it is.

whoa whoa whoa, i would not call One Piece a kids show. thats some high quality story telling right there, with some pretty adult themes, even if it lacks a romance.

I meant the second, I see how it's on topic.

And where the hell do you live where your seeing this!? I mean CHRIST! That's just HORRIBLE. It's worse than the aborted fetus billboard...

I know, but when it's dubbed by Funi?
And the series grew up with it's viewers. The first bunch of episodes aren't as serious as where it is now.

For the most part that was all valid, and I did think about it. The truth is that my POV on this is purely idealistic. I know hard drugs will never be legalised, and I don't think they should be. I do, however, think people ought to have the right to use them. The right to break the law? It doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's my thought process. Usually I think in practical terms, but in this case I guess I'm still an idealist.
And I agree. People have the right to mess up their bodies and minds however they want, be it cutting, smoking or doing drugs. However, when they cross the line into being a danger to others, rather than just themselves, that's when I think the drug trade should be crushed.

Speaking as someone who has sold and purchased a great deal of meth (albiet as an undercover police officer) and have been around incalucable people who use the drug I can....

ya know what? I just read this thread... you guys go on thinking what you do. For once I'm not getting involved in these drug discussions. I feel like a broken record here on the escapist lately.

That would be Moscow, Russia, and it was just on route to school for me.
I think it's not there anymore but it scared the hell out of me the first time I've seen it.
Russia does tend to go overkill with its public service advertisements.
