All right. In my country, Canada the winter olympics is being celebrated. I had a friend that actually had the torch go right by him and he considered this an incredible experience.

'Once in a life time.' In his words.

Days and weeks later, the opening ceremony draws near, then I hear of Anti - Olympic Protestors rioting...

First of all, I don't actually give two craps about the olympics. Sports are one of the things I'm least interested in and care nothing about - I paid no attention to the ceremonies and I paid even less to the games them selves.

One thing that did interest me about the olympics is the Anti - Olympic protestors. I simply don't understand...Why are people protesting against the olympics? Animals are suffering, people are dying, so why is it people waste their time protesting against a few jocks playing a few games?

I am not even sure what they are protesting to be completely honest. You think they could find some relevent human rights issue that they could yell about with some kind of justification.

This and because people like protesting stuff, sorta like when the Iraq war started a bunch of kids my my HS decided to protest it by not going to class(it was fun watching them get taken to truency) and a few other kids decided to protest the kids protesting, so what im trying to say is, mostly because its something to do and people are retards

Maybe they got tickets to Beijing but took a wrong turn at Lithuania and ended up in Canada two years late?

Anti-Olympics? What's the justification?

It doesn't do any damage, it's harmless fun. I mean, I'm not interested much, and I don't know anyone who is, but I can't see why people are opposed to it.

Mind you, these days it seems people are opposed to anything, just for fun.

Some people just need something to protest or complain about. They can never be content.

The amount of tax money going into the olympics is absurd. And as others have said "It's just a bunch of jocks playing games". So to recap: the government is pouring millions into sports, rather than, oh I don't know, paving the streets of Vancouver with fucking gold while feeding all of Africa for a year.

Where were these people in China?

Oh yeah, they got thrown in a hole and beaten with bamboo.

Good times.

Think of the amount of money that goes into what is essentially pointless.

I wouldn't call the one thing that so many nations agree on, and participate in peacfully, pointless.

A person who was going to be participating in the Luge event died in a practise run. Unfortunately, the footage is on Youtube from News resources. I had the unfortunate experience of seeing the footage as it wasn't hinted it would show it (I'm English, I'm not used to seeing people dying in footage). I'm a big wrestling fan, so I've seen footage of wrestlers being resussed in the ring (which brought me to tears, because most of the time it was wrestlers I thought had real talent), but this was over in three seconds, had no idea I would see it and it was only 9:30 in the morning. It's put quite a dampener on my day and since I'm already annoyed with my fiancee, it doesn't bode well.

Other than that, I don't understand how people can protest the games. These are people who dedicate their life to a sport they love.

OH! WAIT!

I read a review earlier that one of the more 'flamboyant' figure skaters wore a fur lined outfit in another contest. He has had death threats from PETA apparently. Seriously, considering they love animals so much, how do they justify threatening to kill a human when mankind is also an animal. I'm sure if animals could stitch, most of them would use the pelt of their prey for the cold nights.

But those are two separate events. Involving TWO people. The games themselves allow athletes to compete, which is the whole point of a sport. Are they afraid fat kids might feel sad that they can't ski? Fat kids are going to be eating toffee or washing out their belly buttons. They will probably miss the WINTER Olympics completely.

I honestly don't see the point of complaining. It's sport. Animals don't die. The athletes choose to do what they do, knowing the risks. The city in which it takes place campaigns to hold the games because it brings in revenue.

I would say the 'Summer' Olympics are different because of complaints of some countries forcing athletes to compete. I haven't seen proof, but I've read articles that Russian and Chinese children are almost tortured to limber themselves up for the gymnastic events.

But seriously? Being Anti-Olympics? I could be very wrong, but I don't even see it being a commercial as events as the World Cup or Superbowl. So I really don't see their argument.
