Don't see much discussion along this front, so I figured I'd ask what everyone's favorite board games are.

Mine is the unequaled "Robo Rally" - (The original edition as the re-issue a few years ago included new game mechanics that broke the game in my opinion).

Robo Rally (for me) is the pinnacle and the game I measure all other boardgames against. It's layout, design, mechanics, and re-playability make it absolutely unparalleled.

Other games that I think are extremely well done are the "Ticket to Ride" francise, "Arkham Horror", "Catan" (of coarse), and many others.

What about YOU? What are your favorite board games?

War on Terror.

From Wikipedia:

War on Terror, The Boardgame can be described as a Risk-like war board game inspired by modern day imperialism and geopolitics. In terms of board game style, it is a mixture of both European and American approaches - utilising elements of chance and chaos as well as strategy and player interactions.
It's a fun, interesting game that takes the piss out of the War on Terror. It even comes with a Balaclava. Good stuff.

Apart from that, Balderdash, although I don't know if that qualifies as a board game, as the 'board' part of the game is really redundant, and could easily be replaced with a points system.

If you play it with smart people, it can be one of the funnest, most satisfying games ever.

Blockmania :D Played it a load with regular group of friends. Had the expansion pack so 4 people at once. It recreates all the fun of a block war from the Judge Dread universe in pure boardgame bliss.

Talisman obviously.

I used to play Diplomacy online. God knows how this game ever worked in board form; it requires seven people to play. It's sort of like Risk, except their are no dice and there's only one Army/Navy to a location. Everyone writes where they want their pieces to move to on little pieces of paper and then they all go at the same time. Hilarity ensues when the promises people made to each other break down when the orders are revealed.

I'm also a HUGE Diplomacy fan. Honestly, this game is awesome in person. The way to do it is to arrange a social event around playing game. Give everyone time constraints on when to submit their turn orders, and the rest of time folks are mingling and socializing (and conspiring?). It's serious irreverent fun. You begin to notice that 2 folks have been out having a smoke for "a little to long" - and immediately realize that they're in cahoots. If you haven't actually tried doing this, it can be an amazing amount of fun.

Hero Quest is awesome.
Stratego and Risk (preferably Castle Risk).
Civilization's board game with house rules is awesome. I played that a lot about 2 years ago.

Then of course I play chess often.

Stratego, Backgammon, Scrabble (the best game ever made) and Blood Bowl (mainly at on the PC but I went to the NAF championship tourney with a borrowed team this week).

I don't play board games anywhere near as much as I used to. I can remember having panic attacks playing space hulk.

My son is getting older now so he will be a good excuse to buy lots of games again.

Back in my youth, I used to play assloads of Stratego with one of my cousins.

Based on where I live seems like I'm the only one who's ever heard of/played the game, so here's a description (from Wikipedia respectively):

Stratego is a board game featuring a 10 × 10 square board and two players with 40 pieces each. Pieces represent individual officers and soldiers in an army. The objective of the game is to either find and capture the opponent's Flag or to capture so many of the opponent's pieces that he/she cannot make any further moves. Players cannot see the ranks of each other's pieces, so disinformation and discovery are important elements of the game.

I like to think of it as a "blind man's chess" of sorts.

I have enjoyed making my own Hero's Quest dungeons.

Back when I was 12 my buddies and I all got different fantasy, RPGish board games. I had Hero's Quest, for the life of me I cannot remember the names of the board games they had.

Probably because Hero's Quest was so much better.

Civilization is an enjoyable board game as well.

Oh, and I dominated some people in a game of Monopoly the other day. They were short sighted in their trades with me and allowed me to take control of a side of the board while I had tons of cash. Oh look, hotels!

Prophecy. It's a Czech made game similar to Talisman, except better. Skill based system, many monsters, big world and great graphics.

Yes! I used to love playing board games but no one wants to play them where I live anymore.
A little card game called The Saboteur still gets a workout though. (It involves a basic human trait, stabbing others in the back)

My recent favorites are Agricola, Ursuppe/Primordial Soup, and Pandemic. I'd include Dominion, but technically that would be a card game.

I know people who love Robo Rally, including my wife, but I came to the conclusion that I should stop playing it. Part of the definition of a really good game for me is that I really enjoy playing it even when I lose; Robo Rally is a game that often leaves me feeling irritated and overstressed when I win. (It would probably help if the people I used to play it with weren't so prone to putting flags in the most inaccessible and hazardous positions possible...)

Cranium is a very fun game, Also every now and then on certain holidays my family gets together for a "Family Fun" game of Monopoly (the family fun lasts about a few turns and then it becomes a war), however, my favorite board game is Chess; Me, my brother, and my cousin play it quite frequently.

So far the games I've enjoyed the most are The Descent, Wrath of Ashardalon and Formula D. I've got a copy of Last Night on Earth, but I find a bit...unbalanced. Maybe we're just doing it wrong. When I got it I thought about getting Arkham Horror instead and after seeing that massive picture I just know that I must have it.
