Anybody else think the way advertising works on the Escapist actually has a negative effect?

Didn't know where to post this so I just put it here, does anybody else find that every time they see the beginning of the video you want to watch interrupted so you can be told about Homefront/Brink AGAIN, that you just think fuck this game?
Like I didn't really give a crap about Homefront I admit, but after having it forced down my throat for a few weeks I had really built up a burning hatred for the game.

I know advertising is a necessary but does anyone else think that they need to find a better way of integrating it?

No, because they are 10-30 second ads.
Don't use an adblocker ever, or just play music or something during the ads.
I don't mean to be mean, but get over it. They are just ads.

It would be nice to have some variety, but it doesn't really bother me either way.

I admit some variety in the Ads would be nice but they serve a purpose, and that purpose is to make money so we don't have to sell our souls to the great escapist so we can stay on the site.

I don't mind when they do the advertising around the video, since I can watch the video and subconsciously take in all the advertising information (And not realise it until a few hours later when I feel a sudden need to watch/play a game or film...)

But the annoying 20-30 advert clip at the start of a video pisses me off. Especially if the refreshing of the page doesn't make it get skipped... I get turned away from the thing they advertise that way (I hate Fable 3 even though I loved the first one and was about to get around to playing Fable 2 at some point)

The long ones kinda suck, especially since my internet is insanely bad in my dorm (like 28-56k), so the darn things sounds and video don't synch up and the the sound will play and the picture will lag behind. Or I try to click off the page, but the loading of the new page + the ad trying to load just leads to a mess and it ends up being faster to close the tab/page and loading the new page.

It often bothers me, but only since a 30 second ad turns into a 2 minute one on my computer.
All those horrible glitchy car ads...
ugh.

I usually take off my headphones and open up a new tab. The only reason I do mind the ads is because they're everywhere, not just on the Escapist. You can't go anywhere without trying to be sold something. It aggravates me.

Erm, I think it works reasonably well as far as advertising goes. It get's you talking about the advert and it's subject thus succeeds in spreading the word about the product.

Plus some of the ads have been quite good to watch.

While neccessary, they annoy the piss out of me. Especially when I'm watching a load of videos here in a row, and get the same ad over and over again!. No it wont change, yes they are needed, but I dont have to like them =P

If ads bother you that much, can't you pay to have them gone? If you don't pay, then you deal with ads. Seems to be the way of the world.

Would you rather that they shut down for having no money? I'm happy to put up with it if it helps them.

ANY advertising puts me off the product, actually. I have literally stopped buying stuff, when the ads have become too obnoxious.

I feel that way about the vast majority of advertising methods used today. They make me so sick and tired of the respective product/service that I want to shove it down the respective advertiser's throat.
I've sent the Escapist a number of feedback letters telling that their current advertising methods, specifically the whole frame ad around the video thing, makes me avoid the product/service at all costs, but it hasn't had any sort of effect yet.

I normally look at the TV or quickly flick on to FB or something, esp if it is a game like Homefront as I already have it.

Once I feel I really make use of the Escapist I'll happily give them my money for support and no ads, until then, I'll deal with them.

EDIT: From reading post that popped up while I was typing, the ads which make the video smaller around the frame do bug me a bit as it can spoil my viewing pleasere and actually gives me less reason to give them my money. I'd much rather the 30second repetative ads over that anyday, which over-time will make me think "yah, have my money now".

Of course it has a negative effect. Everything that interferes with my enjoyment, I will not buy. Advertisements that annoy me get nothing. The Escapist gets its advert money and the products shown do not sell. This is true for not just me, but others. How many? Don't know. Probably a good chunk.

EDIT: Incidentally, I will also never join the Publisher's Club, so don't even ask. You guys ruined it as well.
