You can get both original GTA games for free via downloading them from Rockstar's website.

You can also try a load of free flash games on websites like newgrounds. There's also some free indie games all over the net available for download.

There's also free to play games like Battlefield Heroes and Quake LIVE. Apparently Star Trek Online is now too.

I would get steam if you don't already have it. There are ridiculous deals going on right now and you can probably get The Orange Box for dirt cheap. If you need a free game, there's this video.

And if you need a good gaming website, you're looking right at it, you silly goose!

EDIT: 1000 POSTS! *party buzzer*

If you don't mind spending a little money - and I mean a little - Steam is great. It's cheap, and has a good selection. There are also a mountain of Free MMORPG's you can get a trial for (or even play) for free.

You can play as Simon from Castlevania, Mario, Ryu from Ninja Gaiden, Megaman, Samus, Bill from Contra and Link from LoZ.

Try Kongregate. It has lots of games, but also has chat and badges/achievements, and a forum, if I recall correctly. I happen to like it. There are a trolls and such, but the mods are pretty good about banning/silencing.
