So, I bought, played... and came to the conclusion that it is actually Bioshock one with few extra missions and a few new baddies.

I mean, come on. There is even the slightly retarded "Mother Theresa or baby eating" deciding system (greetings to Yahtzee).

And the "walking-out-of-city" missions, what is that? You just go through corridor. The city in the distance isn't even in 3D.

Anyone out there dissapointed or am I the only one?

It's why I haven't picked up my reserved copy yet. It looks like more of the same, except less refined and without any meaningful storytelling or context for the atmosphere.

With any sequel there's bound to be disappointed people. personally I'm renting it, just like the first, because I can't afford to buy a game, that will only last me ten hours tops

I loved the original so much that they could've pretty much released anything and I was going to instantly love it. I can't beliee people are saying that it's TOO much like the original...Surely that's a good thing?

I played the multiplayer last night, just a couple of rounds of free-for-all as that was the part I was most sceptical about. Turns out it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I love the randomly spawning big daddy suit it's akin to being made the tank in L4D, you just watch the kills rack up.

To be honest, i'm so-so on the subject. While it is very similar to the first, which isn't a bad thing, there really isnt much you can do to an isolated underwater city. But it's the little things that make it stand out, like the splicers throwing themselves into water when on fire (or fuel if they're thick). Going outside has a few moments too, such as me crapping myself last night as a shark came gliding towards me. Silly things

one thing I'm not liking at the moment is the new hacking mechanic, I'm sure the needles reaction is late, I miss the tubes :(

The problem is the original looked so different from anything you'd find at the time, the idea of expecting what's different stuck, and now that we've gone back to Rapture, it's lost some of that mysticism that made the first one great...another words it was inevitable for disappointment since we're familiar with the game now.

For instance space marine or modern army shooters don't have this problem. They've been done so many times people like them because they're familiar not because they're something different, hence why you never hear critics or the general gaming audience complain about how Halo 3 or MW2 are the same old same old.

The gameplay has improved definitely from the first, the main protagonist and his story is more interesting than what we got from Jack "chosen one" Freeman since the big daddy is iconic to this franchise, but of course Andrew Ryan is gone and in replacement we got a Doris Day bolshevik.

I honestly liked this one more than the first, but if the game wants to survive going on a third installment with praise it needs to do something radical.

Right now this game suffers from what L4D2 suffered from, even though it's better it's too much of the same thing to make enough of an impression, and unlike other franchise gamers expect more from a game like Bioshock 2.

I was pissed off that I couldn't afford this.

Then yesterday the missus arrived home and took Bioshock 2 out of her handbag and went 'oh, where did this come from?'

She's so getting her dinner cooked all this week.

True,I agree that most of the originals charm was because it was a stand alone title that was quite obviously different from the norm. I was rather excited by the announcement of a sequal but at the same time anxious that they didn't ruin my found memories of it.

I agree about your comments on the main protagonist, I think being a big daddy was a step in the right direction. The only two qualms I have with this are; 1) I take the same amount of damage in a big daddy suit that I would in the previous game? Everytime the splicers attacked a big daddy in Bioshock the got mushed, but they're match for me now? (Playing Hard.)2) If they decide to make a 3rd game (god forbid) where are they going to go from big daddy? Are they going to go back to feeble human hero/anti-hero?

Wow, you've got the best wife ever.

I remember when my Ex bought me a Gamecube with Resident Evil 4 on import from Japan, couldn't play it for 4 months because the Gamecube had to be modded to use UK electricity, so I had to lie about how much fun the game was whenever she asked me.

Cost me 140 pounds to get it up and running, inconsiderate *****.

Lmao, you inconsiderate Bastard :)

I wouldve thought you just needed to change the plug/power brick, as wouldnt the Gamecube actual input into the gamecube always be the same?

OT: Umm, i havent played the game so i cant pass judgement, but if i enjoy it as much as the original ill be happy enough.

How could she? Man I hope you told her off.

The missus is actually the GF, she's not the wife yet but hey, if she keeps buyin me video games... haha

She does rock, she didn't even mind that I ignored her, my friends and my family for an entire week when Mass Effect 2 came out....

The devs reasoning on this was that during the ten years since Jack left, the splicers have become increasingly spliced up and powerful, so the balance is shifting as Big Daddies are no longer as much of a threat to them.

I read it somewhere, can't remember where.

I didn't tell her off, what I did was the most evil thing I could think of... I spiked her wine with laxatives and left the toilet seat up, you could say I gave her a mid loaf crisis.

Seriously I did that, actually I kinda felt sorry for her since I did all sorts of pranks like worships the toaster, executed a spider plant in front of the other plants to teach them a lesson. I turned the screen around on her beloved Sony WEGA TV, turned all the furniture in the house upside down.

Dude you've got it made.

edit, did she flip out when you made love to an Asari?.

Nah I needed a new TV and a Pal Secam video player to make it work.

Is it possible that being the first Big Daddy had something to do with it? I haven't played either installment of Bioshock yet (it's on my list as soon as I'm done with Dante's Inferno), but I do remember them saying that Bioshock 2 has you play as the first Big Daddy ever brought back online, so that could do something with it as well
