This is something that I found creepy when I first watched this episode of The Next Generation.

Those aren't his hands.
The worst part is that they made it so obvious at the end where he puts down the flute. It just looks so off.

Anybody else find this creepy?

More lazy than creepy

Rather than learn the flute he just had some guy do the notes for him while he blows on cue.

Oh, because he can't play the flute himself? Haha, that's quite funny.

I thought that was pretty funny since you can tell the hands aren't his.

Though, I can't find it creepy due to my astounding man crush on Patrick Stewart.

Though, why couldn't they have just overdubbed it?

Creepy, but makes sense.

Not every actor is good at instruments, but alas atleast he could blow the air properly.

I find it funny, because the flute players head would have to be down by the captains nads.

also both of them look like they are about to burst out laughing.

Weirder was noticing that the keys on the piano never even went down... come on guys, how does a sci-fi show fail on such basic effects? :/

he really did try his best to learn
I think his head bobbing around while the hands stay perfectly still is what gives it away, creepy.

That part is actually explained, they use touch pianos, she later rolls one out in the middle of a hallway that she was able to fit in her pocket.

I didn't notice till you pointed it out, but I generally don't look for little things like that. Still lazy though.

It's Star Trek. What did you expect? At least it got better in TNG. If this were the original, you would have been able to see the actual guy sitting beneath Patric Stewart.

Not really creepy, just lazy.

[small]If you wanna see creepy, then look up this movie I saw about a child piano prodigy (I can't remember the title for the love of me.) In that movie, they do the exact same thing, only when they're trying to make it look like the kid is playing the piano, they cut to the hands of man who's clearly over the age of fifty. It was so spontaneous and obvious, I nearly choked from astonishment.[/small]

It's not that creepy. Just cheap and lazy. They need to film and meet a deadline after all and I suppose one of the best ways to do that is to take a shortcut for some scenes.

I never thought about that. I wonder how much he got paid?
Yes I'm sure I'd be laughing too if my head was that close to another man's genitals. Or maybe not.

Dammit, he is Captain Jean-Luc Picard... if he doesnt want to learn how to play the damned flute then he doesnt have to... AND if he wasnt some random guy to be hired for the sole purpose of holding and playing the flute while he blows into it then that is fine too... Why? Because he is Captain Jean-Luc Picard dammit!

Now if Kirk tried to pull this crap I would slap him in the face... right in the face... but he didnt, so he got away from me... this time.
