Well, Quake Live does have higher requirements than Quake III (I had ~2 FPS on my laptop!), and I'd not be surprised at all if it wouldn't run on the OPs system. The stand-alone Quake III, however, should run (with a good config), as should CS 1.6, the original Unreal Tournament, Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Battlefield '42 (with a bit of luck), Project IGI, Max Payne, and probably many more.
I can't guarantee that even any one of these will run, but that's what I would try.

But why are you limiting yourself to FPSs?!

My first thought is Unreal. I'm pretty sure it could run the original Unreal Tournament. Great game.

I third Unreal Tournament, I play it on my own laptop, the goty edition, and finally beat Xan by hiding next to the shield belt with a flak cannon in the Hyperspace map. Thank ****ing Christ, I almost lost my patience with that dude.
