Over the last few years I've been an Apple hater, not because of the things that can be argued. (Overpriced goods, bad goods, OSX IS BAD, etc). But because of their business practices.

Time and time again they do things that if say Microsoft did they would be sued for instantly. Cutting off 3rd party music players for the Ipod. Restricting what can run on their OS. (Spore can only run on OSX). The whole Psystar lark, and now this, cutting off a superior product because it threatens their own.

Is anyone else sick of this and want to see Apple face some competition?

Hee hee, Apple's competition. Seriously now? Microsoft is all the competition they'll ever need. Its not like Apple is the only one restricting which programs run on their devices and whatnot. Microsoft does things like that all the time, like making DX10 Vista-only compatible.

Are they going to get sued for limiting their own software to more of their own software? No, although they'll get plenty of complaints.

I honestly never have understood the complaints about DX10. Microsoft developed an API and they have the right to charge for it. Vista isn't that expensive, and if you're building a gaming rig - Most people who notice DX10 do - then its a very minor cost.

I like apple, I'm on a Mac right now. There is nothing wrong with them, sure they can't run everything; if you want to do some windows game just boot up the old XP or Vista partition. The OS does not suck and saying that it cant run things before OSX, why don'i you go play Spore on Windows 98?If it would even work. I never got why people don't like apples, I ask people I know and they just say "they suck" and then i ask "why" and they always say "because they suck" i don't know where all the hate for apple comes from. Maybe I'll start a "Why all the hate on Apple" thread.

Windows 98 was released in 1998, Tiger was released in 2005. Theres a big difference.

Everyone is looking so kindly on apple giving to charity yet they overlook that Bill Gates has given more to charity than any Human being or company ever. Also Apple regularly sues Bill Gates in an effort to keep the people he helps in need of help because Steve Jobs is the antichrist. QFT. I'm by no means a Microsoft fanboy. On this lappy of mine here I have Mac OS, Linux, and Vista. I learn them all to keep on top of things computer wise, and find Windows is the best - But that isn't what this thread is about.

All I am saying is why do people hate apple? Yeah Bill Gates is great made the best operating system, gave away billions of dollars. Apple made the first PC, they made the iPod which I'm sure every bashes but almost everyone has. All I say is why do people hate apple?

The Whole fact that they own more than 90% of Personal Computer market should be an Incentive, however U.S. Anti-Trust Laws means that even if Apple was tanking they still get cash from the Government.

Lol well even if i were gay i would be an incredibly shallow person to become an apple fan just because of a donation that would hardly hurt their revenue at all. And remember that even if it worked on that end the people supporting prop 8 would hate apple too.

All i'm saying is that apple stood up for equality.

Edit: Just for clarification i was simply bringing up a point. I use vista for gaming.
Thing is while im in no way trying to down play Bill gate's humanitarian efforts, he has never taken a strong stance on certain subjects of sensitivity. Apple took a stand even though 90% of the country's conservative and only 3 states allow same sex marriage.I'm simply applauding apple for the fact that they actually took a stand.

DX10 being Vista-only compatible is due to XP's poor display driver implementation. Jeez, there are much better examples of Microsoft doing something like that...Just like every other company out there.

However, Microsoft lets you use whatever browser you want on their mobile OS.

And why do so many of you gamers talk about computers as if you actually know anything about them? Fondling your WASD keys doesn't make you an IT scholar (not that I'm one either).

It sounds like you're trying to say that WinXP computers would be completely incapable of running DX10, which is very untrue. I figure if the Alky project didn't get bought out by Microsoft (or whatever mysteriously happened to them) I'd probably be running DX10 on my machine right now.

It isn't impossible to get DX10 to run on XP. Yes it would take some work, but with the size of Microsoft, it wouldn't be any problem at all. The thing is, DX10 is the main carrot-on-a-stick that Microsoft in dangling in front of us "ignorant gamers". They have to trick us into using Vista by forcing their software to work on only one OS.

It IS their software, they can do whatever they want with it, but this follows with what the OP said about a company forcing you to use their specific software, for no sake other than "We Want Your Money".
