Me and my friend did something like that to another co-worker once. It was funny listening to him bang his mouse and tap frantically on his keyboard.

I got a good one from school, from last year
Me and my mates were at the time military obsessed and are now airsofters. At the time of this great prank, we were just getting into it.
One sporty guy in particular, knew how to do a "breach and clear" room entry.
I was determined to see him perform this act.

So, when the history department wanted us to move books around, I decided it was the perfect time. Saw the room had a class in it (watching a video). I didn't tell him this.
I asked him to 'b&C'.
He held the books like a rifle, kicked the door in and yelled "BREACHING BREACHING!"
I'm not sure who's expression was best - the kids, the teacher, or his.

This one works best if they live with you.

In the morning when you first see them, usually at breakfast, eye them with a smirk and go "Did I get you good?" then, they not knowing what you are supposed to have done usually say "No? Why, what did you do?".

Just go "Oh nothing...nevermind" and go back to whatever you were doing.

The paranoia they get waiting for something to happen is usually is better than an actual prank.
