I am thinking of taking up archery, and was wondering about what kind of bow to get. Since I will be using it at my fathers it can't be a hunting bow, and preferably not a coumpound bow. I'm basically looking for one to use as a hobby since I've not used a bow since about 6 or 7 years ago.

I would suggest just getting one of those cheap shortbows they sell at sporting goods stores.

Try it out, see how you like it. Always make sure you're really gonna get into it before you spend too much money.

Why don't you want a composite bow? I'm gonna guess money or local laws are the issue.

I'd say that composite is the best because its much easier on you and is easily adjustable to add more tension. They also have small dot sights that are easy to use. I've never used a non-composite bow but i still think they are the best for a novice.

Actually I've never used a composite bow. Our teacher had us use a normal one. It's the fact that I have to convince my dad to say yes. And if I got that he'd definitely say no. Where could I find a longbow?

More than likely at the local sports or hunting store. Retail store(dick's sporting good/target/walmart) perhaps but i'd check online first so you can save yourself a useless trip.

Actually I just checked Cabelas and found a recurve bow. Should I get this or a longbow? Cause I can test them at the store cause they have an archery area so you can test what bow you wish to get.
