If you're going to get a PSP, get these three games:

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Disgaea: Dark Hero Days
Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero

You'll be set for the next few years.

Theoretically, what I would NOT EVER TELL YOU TO DO. EVER. SERIOUSLY. Would be: buy a used one, either the 1000 or 2000 series. Hack it, and put a bunch of old ROMs on it like Sega Genesis and the old Nintendo systems and all their games (you own all those right? Kinda murky legally otherwise), and enjoy.

Also I guess you can get the first two Disgaeas, Chains of Olympus, and the upcoming persona 3 portable.. I also hear the MGS games are pretty good, though I've no experience with that myself.

I love my PSP. Most people who say they suck are Nintendo fanboys assuring themselves of their decisions. Getting one now may be a risky if the rumors are true that there is a super powerful handheld coming out next year, you may want to wait. But if you don't...

Burnout: Legends
ModNation Racers
Little Big Planet
God of War
Ace Combat X

PSPs have three or four good games. If you want a good handheld system, I highly recommend spending the money on a DS rather than a PSP. It has a much larger library of much better games, in my opinion. My PSP is nothing more than my MP3 player and... well, Jeanne d'Arc and Crisis Core. My DS, on the other hand, is home to some of the greatest gaming experiences of my life, such as Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, The World Ends with You, Elite Beat Agents, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Phoenix Wright, and more.

In short: don't waste money on a PSP. Assuming you want good games, the DS is worlds better.

EDIT: 'Cept I just noticed you have a DS already. My bad. Still, the above games are recommended, and I would only recommend a PSP if you can get it for super cheap. There are some good games on it, but not enough to make the system worth $180. Not even close.

I've gotten my moneys worth from my PSP, but mostly for mobile internet. Beyond that, I've played very few games for it. Most of the games I've played have been the Metal Gear ones, and if you like MGS you can do a lot worse than Peace Walker (most likely) or Portable Ops.

I wouldn't recommend getting one though. There are probably cheaper devices that can do what the PSP can do, and I actually wish I had gotten a DS. I just remember when EGM advertised it as the end of Nintendo's handheld dominance. That definitely never happened!

Personally, I haven't been able to find enough good games for the PSP to justify the purchase. Tell us your tastes. Maybe, given your tastes, we can recommend enough games that look worth playing to you to justify the purshase of a PSP. Otherwise, our recommendations will just be shooting in the dark.

To tell the truth, I don't play it that much. If you want to get one, then get one. It's a serviceable system, with some decent games on it. I don't know much about Disgaea, but I do know that Jeanne D'Arc is one of my favorite handheld games. Burnout Legends is really good, too. FF Tactics is a good one to get, and if you want a shooter, Medal of Honor: Heroes is a really good one for the PSP. Ratchet and Clank is always a solid investment as well.

It's a great system regardless if you hack it or not and those who complain about scarcity or "lack of good games" are simply not looking. It's a terribly under appreciated system that gets slack and a lot of ignorance thrown it's way despite it being nothing like it was 3 or 4 years ago when the "no games" argument was actually relevant. Unfortunately some people have not outgrown that mind set, all it takes is a little looking and research. I once thought the same about the Wii but when I actually bothered to LOOK I was horribly wrong.

Games I own and approve of. If you want any specifics on a certain game just ask.

Step 1: have wireless router
Step 2: Go to bed with psp
Step 3: use internet for porn

And that is how i justify my purchase of it.

Also buy one used and hack it..the benefits out weigh the cons...and no im not talking piracy im talking emulation..all your ps1 classics, NES, and GBA favs. Plus it will still load most older psp games from before late 2009 when you buy them from the store. But be careful cuz new games won't work on custom firmware yet unfortunately. So no modnation racers for you.(unless your a dirty pirate)

This, they emulate anything from Atari all the way through the psx, they also do it better then most computers from what I hear.

Also, the looks my friend got from playing Mario of a psp was priceless XD

He basically got it for its hacked emulation capability rather then the actual games for it, oldschool gamer ftw I guess.

No, it really isn't worth the money. I've had two, and they ended up being MP3 players, essentially.

However, if you REALLY need it, get Killzone: Liberation. It's the only good game in the Killzone series.

Also, a few other games that have been mentioned.

PSPs are well worth it, there's loads of good games out.

Get MGS Peace Walker. Seriously. The game looks amazing, makes me wanna get a PSP. Apart from that I'd suggest GoW:Chains of Olympus and LittleBig Planet.

You might also want to watch out for the next Valkyria Chronicles.

Man, I need a PSP. I don't really want to have one because I like traveling without technological influence, but the games man...release Peace Walker for the PS3 over PSN goddamn it.
