Are there any new game ideas left?

Every time I read or watch a game review, the game is compared to about four popular games on the market.

1) God war series
2) Final Fantasy series
3) Metal Gear Solid
4) Tomb Raider

I am sure there is more but for the most part this is what I hear. Take for instance. the resent Zero Punctuation post on Darksiders. Is there any ideas left out there that can be original enough to not be compared to some great game in that genre?

Sometimes it feels like reviewers dig deep to try to compare it another popular game without giving it it's due and right to stand on it's own two legs. Several games have took what other games did in the past and did it the best. That doesn't mean another game using that technique has ripped them off.

"This is game is great and very original, except that you jump, and you also jump in God of War so it's a blatant God of War rip off"

You are blueballs mctush, you are a god amongst man but the green hippo of fluffyland wants to take back what was never his to start with.
with help of a living crowbar, a mushroom powered italian and a marine-afraid-of-outer-space you go on a not so epic quest to help yourself to not share your stuff and oppress the people.

This epic journey takes place in a handdrawn sprite based 3d world with the exclusive visuals of the nintendo virtual boy2: boy harder.

There's always good original ideas out there, but people like to think "inside the box"...

And you forgot Halo and Half Life...

Hell, I have a game idea written down that cannot be compared to any other existing game!
Dammit, I wish it could be made into a real game... if it was a real game, I would so buy it before any other game...

But sure, my point was just that there are new game ideas left.

Portal was fairly original, wasn't it?
It was, but it is getting old. He did say "new game ideas" and darksiders did just have a portal gun in it.

THere are plenty of things that game developers could do, they just like to stick with what they know works, rather then try something different that might or might not work.

Are there any ideas possible?

Well, yes, obviously.

Will it make as much money without being a sequel or including a heavily armored man?

No, of course not.

Have you seen a game involving a Polish Gnome who must face the Flying Spaghetti monster with the power to shoots flaming balls of Lint, all set to Polka music?

If you have, you must direct me to this game.

Not really original concepts, though. Just replacing certain nouns in old ones. To illustrate my point, I give you: The Tom Clancy Plot Generator. [http://www.brstfilms.com/users/tomklensi.html]

You're correct, of course. It was just the most obvious game that came to mind. I'm having real difficulty in thinking of other truly original ones that have been released even fairly recently.
