THANK YOU! I was hoping this topic wouldn't get too far without a nanomachine infused reply.
The La-Li- DAMN! So close!

OT- A tiny-weenie bit, I suppose, but only a tiny-weenie bit; there's certainly room for improvement here in Britain.

Of course I am. I'm probably the only patriot American in my school though, so a lot of them think I'm some sort of war junkie or something because of it.

So, what do I love about my country? The apple pie, New York and Attack of the Show! (of course there's more to it than that [like the 'can't ban video games because it's unconstitutional' and whatnot] but I don't feel like typing so much.)

Its ok here. And i even own 2/3 of a flag. Cut the rest of to make a cool red/black banner.
Do you mean the "Nordfeuer"-flag? (cookie for V for Vendetta reference please)

OT:
I love my country. Nearly every last bit of it. It deserves all the respect of it's people. It has been down for a long time, but we shall restore it to it's glory.

Let us all clearly separate patriotism from nationalism. They are two different things.
Go ahead then, as far as I know they both revolve around blind belief in ones own country's total superiority to the rest of the world, except Americans prefer to call it "Patriotism" over "Nationalism".

It could be your country's food, the language, the music or whatever.
HELL yeah! Yes to food, had haggis last night. Yes to language, how awesome is our accent? Yes to music, I play the bagpipes. Yes to our clothes, nothing is as manly as a kilt.etc.

FREEEEDOOOOOOOOOM!!!!! ... Ye ken?

But I disagree on independence, that is some silly bullshit.

I think patriotism is not healthy. Just assuming your country is somehow superior to other countrys because you were born there is the exact type of irritating short sightness I cant stand. Was it just the way I was brought up that made me so uncaring for my country? I cant understand why anybody would be proud of it.
I dont mind the country I am in but I am not about to die for it.
I pretty much agree. Is someone worth less because they aren't from your country?

I love my country, but wouldn't consider myself a patriot.

Nnnnno.

Patriotism is just a fancy word for "fanboyism" if you ask me...

Causes more trouble than its worth - love for your land makes you want to fight for it, fighting leads to hatred, hatred leads to wars... I know its not always the case, but it most certainly can happen.

Yes, I am a patriot. And part of our country's beliefs (at least at one time) is to question its leadership.

(Ironically, though, the same folks that considered me treasonous 6 years ago for questioning our government now consider themselves patriots for wanting to take up arms against it.)

I am.

Simply put I think the best thing about the USA is the idealogy it's created which I very much feel represents the future of and salvation of humanity. :)

Arrogant, yes, but in the end I feel it's American ideas that are probably going to unify the planet (which will also mean the end of the US). With that planetary unity, expanding into space for resources and living space will become viable, and we'll be able to actually SOLVE a lot of the problems that have continued to plague us. More space and resources along with a central goverment/culture, shared language, etc... means far less conflict even if nothing will ever be a Utopia.

Many nations of course would like to see their own culture do the same basic thing, but I tend to feel that the USA is the only one that has an idealogy that could actually work on that level. Largely because of it being a successful melting pot culture, in other countries you tend to look around and not see many minorities... they are there, but say in Japan almost everyone you see is Japanese. In Sweden nearly everyone is Swedish, etc... that shared sense of identity and culture helps to keep things relatively peaceful and stable. In the US on the other hand you can walk into your typical Mall (which isn't in a tourist area, those represent exceptions) and see people of tons of differant ethnicities without any major problems.... and while we have problems, and more chaos than other nations, we also make something work that pretty much nobody else has been able to succeed with. This is why I think our ideals/system could at least function globally where I think others would fall apart despite everything.

But then again I will admit that to an extent my pro-American fanaticism is in part in reaction to all of the Anti-Americanism which I get tired of.

''Every true Patriot, must be ready to defend his country from it's government''.
That just about sums it up.

I find it embarrassing when people call themselves patriots to be honest. The only images it conjures up to me are xenophobia and ignorance. Then there's that whole (seemingly) American thing* of God making America the greatest nation on Earth.

I do love my country. The weather's not too, bad, we have good healthcare, transport networks, a variety of different cultures, good food, and good TV.

G. B. Shaw sums up my feelings on this:
"Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it."

But it is weird as nothing in the world is quite like Britain. :S

Ahh Durham. How are you a city? :p
County Durham is the best name for a county though. It even sounds medieval.

Yes. I'm Israeli, and I believe firmly in my people's right to our thousands of years old homeland. I'm especially proud of having left a much easier life in America to come here because of my ideology, and soon I will be serving in the military to defend my country against those who wish to kill us and take our home.

I come from Iceland and I despise the country except for the nature and good looking women.
Isreal.....Hmmmmm wasn't Pakistan split up because the jewish people needed land in WW2?
So it was actually stealing the land from Pakistan? This is just a thought correct me if I'm wrong and leave religion out of this please. But still correct me if I'm wrong.
