Any Escapists out there in bands and wanna promote yourselves and your music to your fellow members?

I'm the vocalist of a local metalcore band in Columbia, SC.

Our name is Eyes Cast Down, and no, that'd definetly not some underhanded Christian thing. I would link to our myspace, but the recording on the only song we have posted (and recorded) is much slower than we play the song now, and it features the old vocalist who happens to suck.

Here's a video of our first show:

(Sorry for the bad sound quality)

As vocalist, mostly all I do is write lyrics and then yell/scream/growl them indecipherably. Most of the stuff I write has some weird double meaning, and comes from either things I watch (like the Venture Bros, which is referred to in two song titles) or weird stuff I read in books or on the internet, such as Big Lurch [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Lurch], a rapper who cannibalized his girlfriend while high on PCP. I try to avoid the whole "I wanna kill my ex-girlfriend/mutilating corpses" stereotypes while still trying to give people reason to destroy a moshpit. We have our second show this coming wednesday and I'm really excited for it. I think we're really tight for a band that's only been playing together for about two months as a whole.

Anyone else care to share? Give opinions? Criticis? Feel free. I'd like to hear the music you guys and gals make.

I've tried numerous times to get a band going with some friends, and it always falls through. I've got lyrics written down, a good voice with a wide range, and the ambitions to reach the stars...

But it just never works out. My friends don't have much instrumental talent, sadly. All I've got is a really good synth player, but that does not a progressive/power-metal band make.

About video: It sounds alright. Honestly, nothing fantastic, but not bad. I've sort of grown out of the screamo scene, but I probably would have listened to you guys a few years back. Take that how you wish.

I was in a similar situation for a long, long time. First it was I couldn't find a band. Then whenver I found a prospect, the band would just fall through and flake on me (then a week later magically find a new vocalist before ever even have met me or tried me out). I finally got into one band, but it didn't work out, as the drummer had a drug problem and the guitarist (and egotist) had to move. I was back to square one for about three or four months until I found this one in mid-March. Just keep at it, keep practicing and honing your craft, and you'll get there. Don't ever give up.

Well, here are the other two videos from that show. I feel the first one I posted is our best song and is one of my favorites to play. These are good to, but I love the first one.

(This song's title is supposed to be a joke referring to the shortness of all the other members of the band, except me. The lyrics include a shout out to my friend's obese cat buddy... so please don't take the lyrics or title too seriously.)

(This video has half of one song and then another different song. The whole "pick up the change" bit is supposed to be a joke, an inside joke for hardcore fans, as "picking up the change" is a name for the floor-punching move alot of mosh-pit people like to use. The other song has a more serious subject matter and is also the poppiest, most upbeat song we have. The titles are "Seen Your Own Clone Coma" and "Is That An IOI or IED?" respectively.)

Yeah.
Electric Bass Player.
I'm not a Promo.
All my friends are drummers!

Got a few gigs going.

But music doesn't pay (gotta just love it).
And nobody's is gonna get famous.
But it will get you laid.

My friend and fellow Bassist won a Grammy Award, and yet remains anonymous.

Yeah I'm in a band with a few friends of mine and play drums in it. We have only played together a couple of times but they were pretty fun when we did. It's been ages since we last practiced and whenever we would be jamming it sounded too much like some generic metalcore stuff which we aren't really a fan of, so next time we meet up we are gonna try play some more lighter progressive stuff and see how that turns out.

I'm the bassist in a cover-type band at the moment.

We play stuff like The killers, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, etc etc.

I'm also hoping to join a metal band as soon as the drummer's foot heals.

I do several musical things but I'm not going to promote any of them here, because anonymity is my friend on this forum. I mainly just work in the industry now. Performing is fun and good times, but there's ultimately a lot more money to be made behind the scenes than on a stage.

I used to be the vocalist in a metalcore band but our drummer was a prick and split the band up. Hope to jjoin a new band soon playing guitar/bass.

Sometimes I wonder if you're actually some big superstar hiding your identity.

OT: I wish I had a band. I love performing, but few I know likes the same music as me and knows how to play an instrument. The instruments I play are guitar, violin, and bass. And I'm learning to sing (and eventually growl).

Sort of.
I was in a experimental groove metal band, but only me and the quitarist were actually doing any work, so we fell apart. We're going to try again after school, so we can actually find some dedicated people.
I was the vocalist, just for reference.

You should go solo then. If you want a job done well do it yourself etc...

If I chose to reveal my identity this forum would become flooded with subtly-trolling dickheads, because the nature of what I do means that I am often hated by people who barely know me. No, I'm not "famous" on any large or important or even semi-important scale but I do spend a fair bit of time in the public eye, and I like to keep that stuff and the Escapist stuff separate. I'd probably only change my mind if money were involved somehow, and even then I'd more likely start a new profile rather than reveal myself on this one.

He's a lot older than me. Not to mention richer. Which totally isn't fair. :D

*Checks the Wikipedia page for Australian musicians*
It's only a matter of time...
*Cues evil laughter*

But seriously,
Are you a producer?

OP: That was pretty good, but the recording was iffy.

Anyway, my friends cousin is in a band, but that's the best I got.

I've written a few songs, though.

Here's the cousin's band:

[wiki/google searches himself]

I'm not on Wikipedia. I was mentioned there a while back in relation to a specific genre of music that I work in, but that entry got edited out by someone smart enough to know that I wasn't a major player. A Google Search with my (extremely unique) exact name in quotes gets 2,600 results, hardly "famous".

I've done production work, but very rarely do I work with anyone outside a few select artists I'm very close to. It's not something that there's a big demand for, as most people think they have the ability to do it themselves and don't require outside ears (ha, the fools).

I talk a bit more about what I do in this thread: ---> http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.176391-Musical-Demo-Submission-thread?page=1 - I'm not comfortable elaborating any further than that.

That (intentionally or not) is very, very intriguing.
OT: Nope. I love music, and I could probably write lyrics, but nothing else. I tried to learn trumpet but it doesn't really come naturally.
Doing my best to sound as boring as possible actually.

If you're very very good at writing lyrics you could get a job in the industry pitching lyrics to songwriters and country musicians in Nashville. Seriously.

Currently, I'm making mashups. Lots of them. I have two albums out and a third one that's slowly being done.

Unlike other mashup artists, I draw from a lot of styles that aren't just limited to Western European/American rock and EDM foundations. And these tunes are more for home listening than dancing to in the club.

Here is one of the more organic ones:

Here is one of the more synthetic ones:

I compose as well, but that's on hold until I get my rig back up.
