So do you like it neat and organized around you, or are you sloppy? What kind of nerd is most common and what age are you? In popular culture we see nerds like this:

and nerds like this:

So which is it?

I'm firmly on the Dexter-side of things (not a psychopath though). I'm 19, neat, well groomed and in good shape.

I am a neat organised nerd; I have OCD, so my games, CDs and such MUST be in alphabetical order and there are as few items off shelves or out of drawers as is feasibly possible.

I'd say I'm a mix of the two, when it comes to organising my room I'm rather dishevelled but I always dispose of dead bodies in a neat and orderly fashion.

I'm the south park one, but not fat, and probably still has the dead bodies of animals. I'm not really organized, when I was in school I would just throw thing that weren't important or probably never used again into my locker. In fact I had 2 10 month old water bottles in there. And my room? Bad, littered with junk and my bed doesn't even have the sheets on properly. My house just has bags my dad has yet to unpack. So yeah I'm pretty disorganized, but to the point where I can remember where something is.

I'm mildly (and I really mean mildly) OCPD... so all my books, games, DVD's and CD's are arranged (hierarchically) along the following lines:

1. By general length (except games and CD's, and for DVD's it's TV series/films etc.)
2. By format (i.e. fiction/non-fiction, RTS & TBS/FPS & 3PA etc., fiction/non-fiction, and bonus disc/non-bonus disc)
3. By genre
4. By writer/artist (books and CD's only)
5. By alphabetical order of principal title

...

A separate shelf has all the stuff that I will definitely not get rid of (arranged by medium, genre, (author/artist) and alphabetic title).

...

And no, I haven't killed anyone yet.

I think I'm kinda neat. I keep my bed relatively neat unlike my brothers who wake up with their sheets in a mess and never bother straightening them up. I get rid of my trash and dishes as soon as I'm free instead of leaving it all around the house like them. 70% of the time, any trash in my room when I'm not in it actually belongs to one of them. I could spend more time dusting my room every one in a while and I should put away my folded laundry sooner though.

As much as I hate to admit it, I'm more the big guy. Well, I used to be. I'm not really chunky anymore thanks to the exercise I get walking my lazy ass everywhere rather than getting lifts.
Now I'm just lanky, but whatever.

My computer desk and game collection being an utter mess remains a constant, however.

It's kinda funny, because other than my swords and other COLLECTIBLE items, my room's a mess. But when it comes to organization on my desktop? Everything has to be in it place, otherwise the OCD might slip out of me.

You could kinda say I'm both.

I tend towards the "It's not a mess I know where everything is" side of sloppy. I like things neat but I often jumble things together and it ends up looking pretty messy. Although my books and cds are organised nice and neatly.

My desk looks like a bomb hit it. a bomb made of revision guides, pencils and sticky notes with reminders written all over them.

So, I'm guess I'm not a dexter nerd, to say the least.

I'm very neat when it comes to taking care of myself. Shower every day, clean clothing, etc, etc...

However, my living space? Not so much. It's almost always messy. It's a bit of a contradiction, really.

I am very disorganized which is the way I like it, my room basically has game boxes all over the ground and clothes. the only time I clean is when I have a want to (happens randomly every 3-4 months) or when someone is coming over to my house and they will most likely go into my room.

The only thing I keep organized is my music and my wallet everything else is just all over the place.

My room is utter chaos but my books, comics and merch are organised so totally that I have been known to ban people from borrowing things if they put things back in the wrong place :/

There is not really a clear cut between the two my surroundings are rather messy (example picture 2) but i am more well groomed myself as well as the fact when it comes to games i am rather linear in thought and process where things are done in a neat way.

Pretty much this, except I'm 21. Things tend to reach a peak messiness around midterms and finals.

The closest I've found to an OCD nerd was someone who was mysophobic, but only in an extremely specific way.

Interesting. It does seem like the cliche is at least correct about nerds either being neat or sloppy. I do love how the exception is that all of you have strict neatness about your nerd stuff regardless of sloppiness. A friend of mine is a really sloppy nerd, and he doesn't even know how to treat a $100 video game properly.

OCD FTW.

Yes, I'm neat. Compulsively so. To the point that, when people come into my room at university, they almost always comment on how tidy it is. Don't even get me started on the state of my desk: everything on it must be parallel to the edge of the desk, otherwise it doesn't look right.
