Are you smarter than a Canadian?

What an odd title but well this is regarding Canada, so....

(I keed, I keed - I love Canadians)

It so happens though that the good people of Canada have some sort of program that comes on the telly occasionally where there's a quiz given to the people who watch and are in the studios. Since I had a about 15-20 minutes to spare I took the test and it's pretty good.

Here's how I did. Time limit was the biggest killer but overall I think not too shabby:

If you don't want to do the quiz then here's a few questions for you.

-Have you taken an online IQ test before?

-If yes, how did you do?. If no, why not?

- What do think of online quizzes?

I personally think that the whole internet IQ tests are garbage. I regularly score quite high on them and I don't think I'm that smart. This on top of the fact that they try to sell you shit afterward. I'd be much more interested in the methodology they use however for this test. It could be a decent approximation.

I also wonder if they give you a higher number just to make you feel good? Also for the record I think internet IQ tests are rubbish. They don't even really determine your intelligence. By modern metrics, Einstein level intelligences are 10,000 times more common now than a hundred years ago, but I'm not seeing it.

OK there we go. I've done one before, results ranged from 130-144 IQ... so I don't know if it's anything near accurate. Also some days I feel smarter than others, perhaps that's the difference.

No it's probably the terrible validity of online IQ tests.

I don't know, I've seen some pretty smart turnips in my day. One built a very efficient engine. I think the percentage was 98.8%....

OT: This sounds interesting, but as mentioned, internet IQ tests aren't very accurate on how smart a person actually is. But then again, I think this one is designed for those mammals.

Smart people are often aware they aren't the smartest people on the planet and thus feel less intelligent.

OT: This sounds interesting, but as mentioned, internet IQ tests aren't very accurate on how smart a person actually is. But then again, I think this one is designed for those mammals.

I can't say that I'm smarter than a canadian with 100% certainty, but I will say that I'll be very surprised if it turns out i'm not. Actually I think I'd kill myself. If I could manage to figure out which side of the knife is supposed to go through the chest... it's the plastic end, right?

Failed horribly at the number crunching, which wasn't surprising after an all-nighter. Seeing as I haven't slept in almost 30 hours, and I'm still supposedly smarter than 80% of Canada, I wouldn't go trusting this test, or any other one, too much.

I'm also horrible at the 1, 45, 77, -◘, 2, ? questions, even after a full night's sleep.

Actual IQ tests are a crappy way of determining intelligence, and internet ones are far worse (yet I apparently still enjoy taking them).

CBF doing the quiz, I have had an IQ test when I was about 12, after I scored really high on a math competition, as in with an actual person who asked questions, I scored 144. That said that was seven years ago, I was harder working and hadn't discovered sweet sweet alcohol.

Its annoying I'm one of those smart but lazy types, I got into university easily enough, but now its a constant effort to keep up.
