The gaming community has been bullied into pre-ordering games with gamestop for a while now. We see this in almost all big releases these days. Such as Arkham City, you receive a joker carnival map when you pre-order with gamestop. BUT WAIT!!!!

If you pre-order at best buy you get fucking robin as a playable character.
Isn't the purpose of these pre-order, extra content bullshit, to get the hardcore fans to buy from a certain retailer???

WELL WHAT ARE ARKHAM CITY"S HARDCORE FANS TO DO!!!????
Buy two copies of the game to receive full content??

I say "fuck that" publishers need to get their shit together and stop whoring their games to retailers that pay them money to take content away from everyone else!
...Thoughts?

:sorry for the double post it told me there was an error the first time

How does the extra content work? Is it unlockable, already stored on the machine, or is it a key for a download?

Looks like you accidentally made a double thread. Wait foor a mod to fix it.

OT: It sounds like one of those rewards is better than the other.

It's the principle I shouldn't be forced to choose what content I'm missing out on.

I'm okay with minor pre-order bonuses being exclusive. New gun? Sure. New hat? Fine and dandy. But characters and maps? Hell no. Anything that game-changing where I draw the line.

But I think this would be better if,

A) All the content becomes available a month or two after release. Pre-order people get their bonus but everyone else gets to see the content.

B) All the content is in the collector's edition. Anyone who cares enough about a game to freak out over content is likely getting the collector's edition anyway. And normal-edition preorders still get something extra.

Rocksteady already confirmed that Robin is confined to challenge maps. Not the story. Also, Best Buy preorders get early access. We will all get Robin. Eventually. They wouldn't create his entirely different move set, animations, and tools just to be confined to a small group that preorders at Best Buy. That'd be a terrible move from them.

So long as all is released as DLC later, I am OK with pre-order bonuses. It is like getting something for free by pre-ordering and that is win-win. Day 1 DLC is never going to go away at this point. That ship has already sailed long ago when consumer spending habits embraced it. What we are seeing now is an evolution I think with these retailer exclusive content.

Also, I don't give a damn about Robin so the choice is easy for me. Now, if it were Nightwing I might have a minor dilemma to sort out.

Grr. I wasn't going to preorder it. But I think I might have to now. Curse whoever's responsible for this.

...Oh. In that case, I'll probably preorder it from Gamestop again. Even though I already cancelled my preorder to get it at Best Buy. FFFFFFF.

hardcore fans don't want Robin anyway, whats your problem?
Robin is awesome! Anyway, yeah, it sucks, but think of it this way. You are going to buy the game anyway, and you have to get it from SOMEWHERE, so you might as well pre-order at the place that has the prize you want. Its basically getting free/cheap stuff for something you were probably going to do anyway. Yeah, you can't get it all, and people who buy used are out of luck, but I'm sure most of it will be DLC at some point and the used people will be balanced by saving money on the initial game purchase.

Your not, you could buy both, or their released as DLC.

If you don't like how they're doing this, then DON'T pre-order it.

Pretty sure they've said it'll all be made available later anyway.

Here's a question: which Robin? Cause I gotta tell you, that could be a deal breaker. I might pay to play as Damien or Todd, hell, maybe even Dick... but not Tim. These things matter!

Or I can just pirate the extra content when it's released on PC. :3
Just a friendly reminder, talking about how you personally like to pirate things around these forums can get you in hot water with the mods. Do whatever you want, you will anyways, but have the good sense to keep it on the DL. Pirating things on PC doesn't make you some sort of cool rebel, it just makes you another bloody pirate.

So the problem is they aren't giving you enough free stuff?
Pretty much. I do so love these 'Game Rage' threads.
People throwing their toys out of their prams without all the facts, or much of an understanding of how the industry works.
Game companies like to make money. Giving exclusive content to retailers means that the get a boosted income from those retailers, meaning they can make more money, and therefore are able to make more games.
That?s not "whoring" that?s how business works.
