That game designer sounds like a pussy.

The whole concept of the GTA is to kill innocent people and now because MW2 does it, it makes it horribly controversial?

No.
Er, no, its not. The point of GTA is to kill various gangsters, thugs, and associated goons. They just don't stop you killing innocent people.

No, actually. You're a gangster taking over a city. Casualties include old ladies armed with uzi's. If you've played a GTA game before, you've killed a civilian. Guaranteed. Or, if you're reallllllllllly careful not to, then you've killed them anyway from a gang fight, drug dealing, etc, etc, etc. If it was just killing gangsters then it wouldn't be as controversial.

Edited to clean up quotes.
O...k. I don't see how I was wrong - I didn't say you won't kill civilians (speaking of which, its kind of odd a 'gang sim' features civilians when most FPS's don't), I just say that wasn't the point of the game. Theotirically, if you are extremely careful, you'll kill only gang members and people trying to shoot you...unlikely, but statistically possible ;).

lol. I try not to kill civilians, simply because I can't be bothered dealing with the cops. =P But I always manage to get a few each game. It's reallllllllllly hard not to. And it is the point of the game. =P It's main selling point is how hardcore it is because you can beat up an old lady. Who pulls an uzi on you...
Again.... the killing of civilians ISN'T the POINT or rather GOAL of the game, its what ends up happening because there everywhere in the city, and frankly sticking to the roads is too slow, but I don't recall the 'murder 500 civilian's' mission (I recall a 'cause shit loads of damage and/or dead' mission in Vice City, but that was very wierd). As for the old lady with an uzi, I don't recall her - I recall the drug dealing child hating old lady with the ice cream business though ;)

Not sure.. I just accidentally clipped this old lady with a car once so she pulled out an uzi and wasted me. It was an interesting moment of my gaming life, after which I generally avoided civilians.

There's always those 'cause massive damage and fatalities' in all the GTA's I've played. Vice City, San Andreas and most of the PSP ones. And some which involve doing drive-bys (?) on properties which are surrounded by civilians.

Yes, they generally don't specifically state "kill xxx civilians", but they die quite a lot anyway. It's like a given part of the game.
LOL, Ok, I'll have to avoid the old lady's then ;) But yeah, you're right, alot of civilians do die in these games, even though its not the objective ;) Sorry about being picky, but I get sick of programmes like Fox News crying GTA as a 'murder simulator'.

Whats the difference seeing civilian casualties in a game as compared to a movie or better yet real life?

He was a undercover agent, but just think which game has/will sell more?
Its bad to ignore this but I don't think kids will become terrorists just because they played as one.

Heh. Entirely understandable. I generally just pull out a few arguments comparing them to a few sensationalist "news" programs we have here which generally calms down any people I know. Politicians on the other hand.. I think they _just_ watch the said shows to get their data. Rather annoying..

There are real murder simulators out, quite a few Japanese games come under that title. Should send some to the politicians and news people..

Why am I no longer surprised about Japan? Land of the rape simulator.

Ah, rape and torture simulator. To preteens. And that's one of their nicer products. =P

Yea, this may seem weird, but I spent most of my game time playing the racing mini games or just cruising listening to the soundtrack. Mainly cause I always die whenever I shoot a civilian.. But the majority of the games missions involve being nice to the civilians. Keeping the serfs happy, so to speak.
