========================

I had a feeling you'd had to be a robot(IE perfect) in order to use it.
Tho in all put some small Dpad like bumps/indentations on it just enough to give you a feel of the zones to press it should work well enough. Nothing worth replacing the normal dual shock layout yet tho.

Still anyone still mesmerized by this thing?

For some reason I can't get your link to work, but I don't know why because the address is right (here's it again in case other people have problems)

In any case I think this can be taken as a big positive. WASD movement is horrible and if the problem is just that the computer is trying to read it as WASD instead of analogue, that can be saved as soon as developers are aware of it (or maybe by putting it in gamepad mode?) It's not a problem with the controller itself yet.

I still believe this could be pretty revolutionary (providing Valve doesn't have airtight copyright of course. Other platforms need to embrace it, else it will just become another driving wheel/joystick. Something that may be better but few people actually use.

You need to add the "http://" part or the forum tries to make it an internal link, appending it to "www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read"

And I'm quite intrigued by the controller. The right pad sounds really versatile and from what I've heard not that confusing once you get used to it. I think that issue with the left pad could probably be fixed with some extra ridges in the shape of an X or 8 ridges separating each distinct area.

I think it would be as shame if it became standard to simulate WASD with the left pad. The thing that sucks about keyboard/mouse is the lack of finesse in direct movement. If they do tend to map the left pad to 8 directions then the controller will ultimately be a slightly worse mouse and keyboard, but if you can use it for direct analogue movement then it might actually be better than both a mouse and a gamepad.

Ideally, Valve would have an option to switch between analog and digital control like a lot of gamepads do. But the extra ridges could at least help localize the user's thumb when using it digitally. Or they could even be trenches so they're less obtrusive when sliding but still give a tactile response when looking for the diagonals.
