So I was watching the trailer to Assassin's creed. I was able to catch a game play trailer or two as well. It looks like they did a stand up job with detail, game play, and artistic direction. It sounds like a solid idea to me. With things like "social stealth" and having the entire environment as your play ground, it sounds very inventive. (To be Honest, I hate linier paths.)I want to reach my objective, but have a choice of how I do it heh.) So why am I making this post? Well one reason would be to say that I enjoy the look, sound, and feel of assassin's creed so far. Another would be in retrospect I would like to see if others would agree and or disagree with me on my choosing... and Give me their opinions of the game.

I am also curious if anyone knows anything I don't.
(I personally would pay to see Yahtzee do a video review on it)

I feel like the only gamer on earth who has had faith that this is going to be a great game. Everyone I talk to looks at it and it seems they almost hope it will suck.

Looks like the first two reviews are proving them wrong...I know how I'm spending my Thanksgiving break...but having said that I hope it pisses Yahtzee RIGHT OFF :)

I'm looking forward to it, quite possibly the one game I'm anticipating the most. It looks a bit like Thief, which is a good thing.

However, I know that it's simultaneously being developed for all consoles, so I REALLY hope the PC version won't be dumbed down in terms of movement controls and missions. I've seen it happen way too many times already.

Going to try the demo first.

I think it's gonna be absolutely amazing, so I'm probably gonna be disappointed if it is not that, but then again it probably is. If yahtzee reviews it, he's probably gonna tear it apart, but yahtzee got this way of making it totally find to take a huge dumb on something you love, as long as you do it insanely funny.

I think this is everything that they wanted to do with all the prince of persia games. you can tell the creators are the same not only by the look of the game but even in how he moves. i wouldnt be suprised if you pulled his cloak off and it was the prince.

Also im all for games that let you choose how you want to go about your mission. but after being told what to do for so long in games im not so sure the public is honestly ready for it. do you really think the world is ready for this? dispite what you feel about the game. is this kind of gameplay really all the welcome in the world?

I think that the extra time they have spent developing this game will equate to a solid title. Certainly Jade Raymond's reputation and Ubisoft's to a certain degree are hinging on this title's success. Having said that, they did allow Prince of Persia 3 to be used with an XBOX in the NBC series Life this past week and it was horribly done, so maybe they don't care and are only relying on all of their pr/hype to entice buyers.

I think I am mainly waiting to see if one version is better than another version for the consoles.

When I saw that scene, I was almost disgusted enough to come here and post about it. It was a travesty. "Win! Advance to Level 2!" *DING* magic spreadsheets...

I don't know about "dumbed down", but given what I've seen on the control scheme, I don't think it'll be the same experience. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's primarily a console title, so you may inevitably be disappointed.

Speaking of, the control scheme is what has me a bit nervous about the game. Y = head actions, X = Left Arm, B = Right Arm, A = Feet. Sounds incredibly intriguing, but I'm wondering how well it will come off when actually playing. I'm incredibly excited to try it out, though, and have been anticipating this title for quite some time. It looks to be a breath of fresh air from shooters, but even the stealth style seems different from other games of its type.

In the end, this is one of those titles that just has me feeling "ooooh, it's the next-generation baby...".

Along with Mass Effect and Too Human, this is one of the games I've been most looking forward to since getting my 360.

I'm buying "Assassin's Creed" for several reasons:

1) It's an Ubisoft game. I love Ubisoft games.
2) I like pixellated assassination games (the Hitman series will continue to be one of my favorites).
3) It's set during the Crusades.
4) It looks awesome and has a Jesper Kyd score.
5) I've heard rumors of top notch crowd interaction design.

What I'm worried about:

1) A woefully short game 6-10 hours.
2) Lots of "Prince of Persia" styled leaping and cavorting and slo-mo-ing.
3) Timed "push the corresponding button" events. I personally hate them. I hate rhythm games because I am very bad at them and I find them to be distracting from the game - a la "Indigo Prophecy".
4) Lacklustre gameplay.
5) A paint by numbers point A to point B game.

But heck, I'm still gonna buy it, how can I not? I heart Ubisoft - almost to the point of patheticness.

That, in tandem with the fact that every preview from anyone who's actually played the game has sung its praises to high heaven, should alleviate most concerns about its quality. It isn't really a stealth game either; though there are escape scenes and it is generally to your advantage to blend in with the crowd, it is entirely possible to just murder your way through your target's bodyguards if you're good enough.

Sure, but murdering your way through the body guards is almost the exact opposite of what your SUPPOSED to be doing. You can murder your way through people in every game, I'm assuming that if you do that in Assassins Creed, well, your losing half the game.

Anyway, I'm not all that interested. I feel the same way as someone a couple posts up, Stealth games just aren't for me. I've given them a chance, Splinter Cell, Thief, Metal Gear, but they all just bore the snot out of me. To be honest, I don't think this game is going to do very well to that affect. American gamers are all about FPS's and heavy action these days. Like I said, you can find the heavy action in this game if you murder your way through, but then your missing half the the game, and so user reviews will probably be a bit low.

Just get me to the 20th already so I can get Mass Effect, and so that these nightmares of another push-back of the release date will finally end.

I've hated "hide" stealth games, but I think Hitman does it right because most of the time you're just trying to blend in. If Assassin's Creed does something vaguely Hitman-like in an enormous world, I think it's gonna be great.
It has a lot of potential to fall flat though...but I don't think that's gonna happen. I realize the plot could be linear, but just with that size of area and the free-running abilities...I mean does anyone remember the Spiderman 2 video game? I know movie-games aren't normally good, but just the ability to roam around New York at such high speeds made it insanely good.
I used to not think of Assassin's Creed much, but as other games fail I'm beginning to see the areas where this game could REALLY come out on top. It's a new franchise (take that, Zelda, SM Galaxy, Halo), it's free-roaming and non-linear (take that, Call of Duty, Half-Life), it's not another FREAKING FPS (take that, BioShock, Crysis), and it's from the people who made Prince of Persia (take that, EVERYONE.) I've really hoped that Orange Box would take game of the year, but I really would not mind if this did.

Is anyone else influenced by the fact that the lead designer for the game was a woman? Last time that happened I can remember is Portal...and everyone remembers the words "I'm SERIOUS. I can't find any criticism for it."

Ok. NOW I am intrigued. Monster Hunter tried a new control scheme as well, but the game itself was average, to say the least.

Hehe. Jade Raymond is not the lead designer, Patrice Desilet is. Jade Raymond is the producer and the cynical (and wildly successful) attempt at getting the prospective buyer to pay attention to the developer diaries. You'll notice that her hair is brown in the English interviews and black in the French-Canadian ones in a pretty obvious attempt to appeal to the different demographics.

This has nothing to do with the game quality, though. ;)

A couple of things:
Firstly from early reviews, it seems as though despite predictable flaws (repetitive side missions and fighting), it has been a wide success and the expectations have been lived up to.
Assassins creed is not a stealth game. The only element of stealth in it is blending into the crowd and not doing anything suspicious (something never seen before- possibly in hitman and that was a success). Furthermore, that social 'stealth' is only one option. You can fight you're way through- it's pretty hard but possible. You could climb over the walls instead or find a back route, or you could blend in with in a group of monks.
Also the control scheme is a bit strange at first to learn, it apparently makes sense and works contextually (and according to reviwers, fluidly).
Ultimately i think that due to so far good reviews, there is no doubt that it is a great game and live sup to expectations, now it's only problem lays with how seriously the reviwers' take it's flaws.

Ahhh, Jade Raymond. The reason I haven't been keeping up with Creed news even though I'm excited as hell for it. It insults me and makes me feel a bit sleezy whenever she's given more attention than a standard games producer would (ie, none).
