I love the game too much to not review it. Also, this is my first review so down try to burn me at the stake if it is shit.
Assassins Creed was the first game I ever got for my Xbox 360, back when it was sparkly new out of the box and not a piece of beat up junk that breaks down every month. At the time, I hadn't really been into the whole idea of sandbox games where you could run around a city doing anything. I just didn't really see a point in them.
The plot was pretty easy to follow. It's about a guy in the future whoes been kidnapped and is being forced to tell a creepy man in a lab coat where a certain piece of treasure is by reliving the memories of one of his ancestors in a machine called the Animus. The ancestor (Altair) is an assassin from the middle east who spends most of his time jumping around and collecting flags, beating up poor beggars and being a dick to the local police forces when he is not causing the city to go into red alert for horribly murdering someone. Altair does some naughty things and so his boss, Al Mualim stabs him, only he doesn't. Actually he uses a "Piece of Eden", some magical shiny object that can make illusions, to trick everyone, including Altair, that he stabbed him. Altair then has to do the hero's job of killing many evil people to return the status quo and make everything peachy in the Holy land. But in the end, He realises that Al Mualim is actually the evil one and ,in true underdog fashion, kills him.
Gameplay and controls
I found that the controls were relatively easy to use. Ubisoft didn't try to be fancy and cock up the controls by swapping the joysticks around or anything so I was happy. However, the autotarget button made it insultingly easy to kill enemies. You just switch to throwing knives, lock on and you could kill the entire city without them noticing. I really enjoyed the idea of having the quicktime events, the blocking and retaliating, without you dieing horribly if you were shit at it. Also, grabbing someone and chucking them off a roof will never ever get old.
Problems
I really didn't like the prick who decided putting poor beggar women would be funny. Yeah, we get it, people are dirty little peasents in the middle east. Thanks for the achievement though, it was really fun to get. Then there were those horrible little leaper things. Weird retards that punched you and only YOU. Then, when you throw them back, the guards latch onto you and you have to alert the whole city that there is an assassin in town. I feel quite sorry for the guards though. They obviously try so hard to keep order and you go in and ruin all the peace within a minute of getting into the city. That's why it was so fun to kill every guard you came across, knowing that their family would then starve at home. The thing that buggered me the most however was the collecting of the flags. There must have been over 500 of those little shits. And some of the achievements were to collect them all.
Conclusion
I think that all in all, Assassins creed was a good game. It had really nice graphics and the assassinating was really fun. The controls were intuitive and the wall-jumping was awesome. I recommend buying the game if you have a short budget. Hopefully Assassins creed 2 will be equally as awesome.
