Assumptions People Make About You... Which Drive You Crazy

I'm born and bred British but currently I'm living in Turkey. The assumption people make about me the most (and then promptly communicate to me) is:

"So you're a Christian, right?"

I'm not a Christian and, even if I were, this assumption would still annoy me because it's made simply because I am white and Western. I suppose I can't fault them for saying it, if you're Turkish the assumption is you are a Muslim - regardless of your lifestyle and actual personal beliefs - so for a lot of Turks they just translate this thinking to foreign nationals too.

So, with that said, what assumptions do people make about you as a person, which greatly annoy you?

Yes, i may have a slight hint of the speech rythm commonly associated with homosexual males. No, i do in fact like women.

Just because I'm wearing an N7 hoody, it doesn't mean I'm Commander Shepard.

...

Wait, that's awesome.

Okay, okay, new plan...

I have rather narrow eyes, and I smile a lot which doesn't help, so a lot of people actually think I'm asian.

I'm white.

Yeah, kind of awkward having to explain that sometimes.

Kind of like this.

A lot of people assume I'm a sports person, that I watch and/or play sport (usually Australian rules football).

I just cannot express in words just how wrong that is. Sports and I just do not mix.

I guess it's because I'm a large guy. I'm a bit over 2m tall and have very broad shoulders.

It gets very annoying explaining to very person I meet that I do not care about sport. Especially since they usually respond with bewilderment that someone, who in their eyes would be a great sportsman, has no interest in playing.

That I'm violent.

I've been told that my grin is unsettling in the way that I might beat somebody up. Anybody who actually knows me knows that I'm too polite to do something like that.

I hate assumptions.

I'm vain because I wear make up.
I have low self esteem because I sleep around.
I'm stupid because I have a Mancunian accent.

Just general bullshit like that.

Heh, I understand you totally. Because I'm British, people assume that I MUST be totally-crazy-in-love with... you guessed it, football. Which I in fact detest. I'm really tired of the "surprised face" I get when I tell them I hate football.

Your first point really took me by surprise. It's pretty common for the ladies (I'm, a-hah, assuming you're lady from this comment + the picture) to wear make-up... never realised some people associate this with vanity? Interesting.

Just because I'm Chinese well a British born Chinese to be exact, everyone assume I can speak or write Chinese.
Sorry to break it to you but since my parent didn't send me to this Chinese speaking school to learn it, I can barely speak it properly let alone even trying to write it at all! I can only speak simple like phrases althought I can understand what people are saying in Chinese most of the time.

That because I'm a massive nerd, I play World of Warcraft.

Bet that'll be a common one.
Yeah, this too. It really annoys me. Its like they're saying 'You seem like the kind of guy to waste away his life hunched over a computer doing the same action over and over again.' Whats odd is that none of them ever seem to realise how insulting it is.

But if we don't wear make-up, we're ugly tramps who don't care about our appearances and men won't look twice at us. XD You just can't win sometimes!

OT: I think people seem to assume I'm constantly eating because I'm rather "voluptuous" to put it nicely :p
I regularly go about 1-2 and a half days without eating or eating very little and it just doesn't bother me at all. I feel like a camel sometimes, but regarding food.

Also people seem to think I only listen to one genre of music which confuses me. I understood it when I wore my baggy hoodies and jeans but now I try be a bit more trendy and brightly coloured I don't get it.
I like all types of music but regularly hear "You won't like this, it's [genre that isn't rock]."

Rock is my favourite but I listen to so much other stuff at the same time.

I've never actually heard that, maybe because I don't see many ladies without make up :p, but I think I'd prefer a woman who didn't wear it all the time. I just personally find it kinda weird if ladies refuse to be seen without it.
If anything I'd mix and match the first and second assumption to make something like:
"You have low self esteem because you always wear make up"

Michael Mcintyre knows that feel, bro.

OT: People assume I don't have a soul. Doesn't get to me as much as it used to. It's quite hard to get angry without a soul.

I've had a few insults slung at me because I barely wear make-up. I do to go out of course, but most girls my age wear make-up just to nip to the shop to buy a loaf of bread or to go to work.
There's no one to impress at my job so there's no point dolling myself up.
Maybe when Robert Downey Jr starts visiting work I'd start wearing my Sunday best but until that happens I don't see the point and that has led to a few vicious comments from girls who assume I must certainly be a lesbian. :p

I wear glasses, so therefore I "know about computers." In retrospect, I really should have majored in computer science, though.

People sometimes think that because I'm quiet around them, that I hate them. I will never understand that one.

That because I can fix computers, I want to fix my friends computer's for free.

Also, that because I'm white and male, I've never had any hardship in my life, nor could I understand the daily struggle it is being the "minority". Just the self-righteous arrogance of the people who say that makes me want to bash heads.
