"Athiesm"

I will not lie, I have come here to gripe.

The gripe is those who call themselves or others 'Athiests' and seem to have no idea what the word means.

Athiesm is the non-belief in a God based purely on scientific fact and logic. Many do not believe in a God due to these exact reasons. These people call themselves 'Athiests', quite rightly.

But then I see these self-proclaimed 'Athiests' declaring "There is no God", "X religion is bullshit" ect. ect.

This isn't Athiesm.

Athiesm is the non-BELIEF in a God, not the knowledge of it's non-existance.

To be an Athiest is to conclude that the evidence suggests that there is no God, not that there isn't one for definate. Therefore most Athiests are also Agnostic. They accept that we cannot possibly know for sure whether a diety exists or not, but they choose to believe they don't.

Belief is not knowledge. It is the very opposite.

So please, next time you want to post in a religious thread claiming you're an athiest and must vehemently attack all religion as false, don't. You're letting the true athiests down.

Defend your beliefs, don't attack other's.

personaly i dont belive in god directly and i do belive in the scientific way of explaining things but think that on some level that science is the deconstruction of what actualy made us. what ever it was, which the catholic church in the past was too ignorant to comprehend.

Well not like I've said exactly this on every single religion thread I've entered into...oh no wait. It's a point that also irritates me.
As an athiest I find it most irritating that people assume I'm going to attack their religions and tell them they're stupid.

Calling people out over a technicality in the defintion of a word never ends well.
Why shouldn't atheists be evangelists, you know, like every other religion?
Why shouldn't they spread their lack of belief?
agnostic noun a person who believes nothing can be known about the existence of God or of anything except material things.(Oxford Australian Student's Dictionary 2nd edition)

Therefore an atheist is not agnostic because the defintion of agnostic infers a belief in God.
