This is the reason I don't like referendums. [http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/37162569/mrs-browns-boys-named-best-british-sitcom-in-audience-poll] I know it's only a stupid poll that doesn't mean anything, but God almighty, Mrs Brown's Boys? Out of all the amazing comedies we've produced since 2000 people voluntarily chose that piece of shit as the best?

I've not seen that yet. Looks quite interesting though.

At first I was like 'whut?', what about absolute classics like Fawlty Tower, Blackadder, Yes Minister, Keeping Up Appearances, Absolutely Fabulous, Allo Allo, The Thin Blue Line, Are You Being Served and a bunch of others?

Then it dawned on me > 21st century.

Can't really remark much on Ms Browns Boys being picked as winner. Never seen it. Out of the shortlist I've only seen Black Books, The Green Wing and The IT Crowd. I looked up some clips on youtube and from what I can tell the humor is mostly derived from "man dressed as elderly woman spouts expletives".

I can't believe that beat... well, everything else. The Office, IT Crowd, Peep Show, Black Books... Jesus.

Even if we picked something with more universal appeal and more gentle humour than those, Gavin and Stacy is there and that didn't get chosen.

Better question. How can we have a best anything of the 21st Century in 2016? There's still 84 years of it left!

Yes.

Or Luxury Comedy, but... yes.
Should we split the difference and say Mighty Boosh?
You, sir, have read my mind.

Agreed.

Noel is a deity, and Julian is that deity's geography teacher dad (But still a deity).

What?! It beat out the Cadwalliders of Essex? Not to mention the Caduggans of Aubery Muse and the mutton chop filled Whittakers of Edgerton Crescent! Penelope Westworth-Harrington put her all into those shows!

The Mighty Boosh. But ... hrm ... Black Books was mechanically better, but I think the MB made something quintessentially Euro-trashy with a cross-temporal analysis of music and culture. Which was ... awesome.

People always forget "Spaced" which gave us the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost duo and much much more. And no it is not a bloody stoner comedy! Ideal is, and that should also have beaten Mrs Brown's boys.
Eh...lowest common denominator and all. I know a lot of older people like that show. Older and/or fairly intellectually challenged people.

Can't comment on Mrs Brown's Boys as I haven't seen it but Black Books is fucking fantastic.

IT Crowd was pretty good too, given that it was by the same guy that did Black Books and had some of the same style of humour

Also remember that the guy who did Black Books and IT Crowd also gave us Father Ted.

May not have been eligible as it first aired in 1999.
