Aunt Buys a Wii then starts acting like she knows Gaming Prove her wrong

Gahhhh, My aunt bought a Wii big whoop right? Well She Thinks she knows gaming now and I quote "There is not much diffrence between the 3 systems except the wii is better because it gets you up and moving." this was said to my Mother and when I tried to talk to her about the diffrent systems I told her the the Graphics for the Wii is not the best and the Controls are more often than not sloopy. She pulled the good old fassion "I am older so i know what the hell i am talking about" move

So she went on to diss the Xbox and PS3 saying they Are worse than the wii but not stating a real reason so i tell here about Prject Natal and she says Its not out yet is it ?

So i try to tell her about the Controls again she stops listening to it and starts Getting angry With not being able to prove the Wii is better. saying that my Mother should buy me A Wii and Not get me the Xbox When I am doing chores to make my own money around the neighborhood And then she says That I should not get the Xbox Because it would let me actually play games almost When i come home from a long day of school i want to shoot heads not throw a remote at the tv because of piss poor controls and Graphics

What gets my goat though is that even though I am one of the only three Games in this town of Jocks and Sports lovers she acts LIKE I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE about gaming so this is where you guys come in she wont belive me But if i can show her a list of reasons of why the wii sucks and give examples of it the more the better . So please help me.

The Wii sucks for people who actually like to sit down and play video games. It's almost all casual stuff and shovelware. But your aunt won't know that, she doesn't know gaming. It's, to quote someone I forget, "Playing chess with someone who doesn't know the rules."

It isn't an issue of the Wii being worse so much as it's a case of the Wii not being suitable for everyone.

The Wii is aimed more towards 'family' gaming (as such, there are more party/sports/challange based games and less action/shooting/fighting games, this may be fine for parents and younger children but after a while this won't satisfy many teenaged/young adult gamers) while consoles like the Xbox and PS3 are aimed towards a more (for lack of a better word) 'mature' and 'adult' crowd.

I've had fun playing the Wii, don't get me wrong, but I've gotten more use out of my Xbox and have fonder memories of it.

I'm afraid you shot yourself in the foot there a bit. To put it in perspective, your aunt is like the person who buys a computer and feels she knows everything about technology, and you are the person who reads WIRED and feels like you know everything about technology. I'm afraid neither really adds up to true experience, on the surface.

She needs her ideas crushed like I crush this cashew... ok, it's harder to crush this cashew than I thought, but you get the point.

3. I am sorry for your predicament. If you want an Xbox 360 but are forced to have a Wii instead, that sucks. Maybe you could work for your own money and buy one, however.
4. Regardless of the last statement, the Escapist is not the place to come to ask people to bash a console. We are tired of console wars here and try to be civil. I think most of us recognize that all three consoles have their pros and cons (i.e. the Wii has first-party Nintendo games, and the Xbox 360 has much better processing power).
5. Going on the theme of that last statement, try to take that point of view with your Aunt. Tell her you are happy that she enjoys her purchase, that you recognize that the Wii is good for some people, but that it is not right for you. List some reasons why you would like an Xbox 360 instead, but don't bash the Wii. It seems like your Aunt may subconciously regret buying the Wii, and you don't want to bring those feelings out if you're trying to avoid a fight.
6. Talk to your parents about what console you want in private. That way, you control which way the conversation goes, not your Aunt.

Second your mother sounds like one of those typical ladies who is too high-minded for her own good and close-minded to what young people have to say. Third and last the Wii's controls are just horrendous (if you are playing Wii sports I can see the fun but otherwise they are very imprecise and sloppy).

Ok i dont just read i Live and Breath games, I had a sega gen for aslong as i can rember and was on the cutting edge ingaming fora time, But the recssion kinda killed that But i do keep up and i have played Xbox and wii and i can say For certian Xbox is better.

Which is probably why she thinks the Wii is the bee's knees--it does what she wants it to do. Back in her day, games weren't a huge counterculture or a lifestyle choice. They were little diversions to give you a little while of fun, instead of huge overblown productions that take years to develop and create. So it makes perfect sense that she'd be attracted to the "kiddie" console, as it provides forms of entertainment that are the most familiar and most appealing to her.

She's like the person who uses a computer for solitaire and email (when she can get it to work). You're like the person who uses it for Facebook, Youtube, Limewire, YouTube, Wikipedia, games, and forums. Both of you use it, just in whatever ways best suits you. Does that make sense?
