Those who dont live here dont understand....

all our video games are $90+ for new releases, which is understandable when our dollar was half that of america...but now it is close to even... why should we have to spend twice as much on games... we cant even buy games over steam because of this...

we have to wait months and months to even get games that everywhere else has been out for ages.

we only get the ass end of games, if they dont do well in japan and america, fat chance in hell of us seeing it (ive been dying to play front mission 4 and 5 but it never made it here).

We dont have R18+ rating, so alot of games get banned, or re-realse with stuff cut out and or changed....

wtf this country sucks for gamers.....

Australia. The only place worse than Europe if you're a gamer.

I've heard Australia don't even have Rock Band yet, and Rock Band 2 is set to come out this year for the yanks. Is this true?

I used to think waiting 2 weeks to 2 months for a game was bad. Then I met an Australian. I feel for you guys. Let's just hope your next government will sort this out when the current one is voted out. If it gets voted out.

Ha, I think escapist community knows the most about this and couldn't agree with you more, unless they want to add more to the "Australia is a pain in the ass for gamers" list.

Now to give this thread some actual direction, I'll propose the question:

What could we do to change this? Boycott? Protest? Get rid of that one guy in the OFLC? etc.

I don't know much about this subject but Yahtzee talks about it a lot. You should try GAME TRADERS ROBINA.

ARRGGHH!! I hate people who say that. It's Gametraders in Robina which is 3 hours away from where I live. They do nothing special to any other Gametraders aside they're based in Robina. Besides, you can't actually buy any R rated or banned games from there. they're still expensive as all hell, but offer a range of games that are rare in oither stores. Yahtzee most likely was able to get a game from there before it hit the shelves. Nothing more.

I feel sorry for you Aussies. it's a load of BS you guys gotta go through, with all your crappy rating systems, ban's and severely delayed releases. It's crap like that that makes me glad I live in Canada.

Yes, my Australian friends on steam have told me of that problem. It really sucks, but can't you buy it off an american market and have it shipped to AUS?

I guess that is why Australia is called "down under." You guys appear to get the short end of the First World stick. Yes, it must suck being a gamer down their.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that Australia is a PAL region, meaning that American games won't work. That's ignoring regional lock outs of course.

Yeah we still dont have Rock Band 1. Im pretty sure we get it at almost the exact same time the US gets RB2...

Yep we're PAL

A good thing about the delayed release date for games over here is that we get a few buffer weeks for bugs to be ironed out of games and occasionally extra content. (PAL version of FFX had dark summon-y dudes of which i killed none XD)

Pretty sure I saw the RB2 guitar kit on a shelf in one of the local markets the other day (a K-Mart I think). Thankfully I've kicked my "musthaveitbecauseitjustcameout" addiction and am content to comfortably wait.

Yes, we may be the sphincter at the end of the gaming bowel system. Yes, as the gaming sphincter of the modern world we tend to get screwed over and over (without lube) on price. And yes, as a final insult, our ratings system for video games presumes that the R18+ category is only for "grown-ups" who watch movies.

BUT......

We are still the best damn country in the world to live in once you step outside your front door into the brilliant sunshine and realise that you won't get shot for looking at somebody the wrong way, won't freeze in winter, won't have an allergy attack due to high pollution, and can afford to buy prettymuch whatever you want as long as it's not a house! Did I mention our gorgeous women? :)

Aussie Aussie Aussie........

Rock Band is scheduled for release in Australia in the next two months I think but that's not the worst of it.

The EB games website lists Rock Band-Game (as in no instruments) as $120, forcing us to pay an extra $289 for the instrument bundle.

I've heard/read, I can't remember, that the US only had to pay $170 for the lot. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this otherwise Aussies are getting ripped off...again.

For some strange reason, video game piracy is on the rise and quite high in Australia.
