Is it wrong that I laughed out loud when i heard on the news that Australia's North Eastern part had been hit by a cyclone called........Cyclone Yasi?

I guess I shouldn't, as nobody died, or were seriously injured. But seriously you Australians are tough! How do you make it through one of the Worst Storm in Australia's history [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12347982] with not only no deaths, but a +1 to their population? (A woman gave birth in a storm shelter)

Anyway, onto discussion: Cyclone Yasi (*snort-laugh*)
Post your thoughts.

What's funny about the name Yasi? The fact that it was in Australia and sounds vaguely like Yahtzee? Is the word funny to you? Maybe I'm missing the point here.

You know not everyone in the first world is as incompetent in disaster relief and preparation as George W. Bush right? Also we are communists, in that we care about others and use federal funds to help those who need it. In reality, I think after Black Saturday and the recent floods Australians just don't fuck around and think they can beat nature any more.

The article itself said:
one of the worst cyclones to hit north-eastern Australia in decades
You're missing something here. And Australia doesn't get many bad cyclones because it's outside the ITCZ, which is where the vast majority of SW Pacific cyclones hit.
Holy shit, I just applied Level One Geography. And it was the most boring course ever -.-

Like octafish said, what with a lot of queensland being so far underwater in the past month or two it might as well have been the worlds largest submarine, you'd hope anybody living there would have learned from all those people who died's mistakes and GTFO while the cyclone hit.

AND NOW I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ANY FUCKING BANANAS!!!

I wish they had banana crops growing somewhere in Australia that doesn't cop (most of) the natural disasters.
