I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to you all for my appalling conduct yesterday I think I was still feeling a bit sick.

anywho

Robin Hobb Is one of my favorite fantasy authors son I have decided to try reviewing her general writing style. This is my first review (I'm trying to forget twilight and so should you).

Robin Hobb Has Written 12 books to my knowledge, The Assasin Trilogy, The Liveship Trilogy, The
Farseer Trilogy and some other trilogy about a fat guy(there is more to it than that but... there's also not). Her first three trilogy's are her better works (I really didn't like her last trilogy... god I'm using that word a lot). All three three's (of her first three) are connected by setting and (arguably) center around the same character (although he [he's a he for most of the books so shut up] is often not the main character). HE is a prophet because its an immutable law of fantasy that: All fantasy must contain a prophet or prophecy.

The other thing that connects all her novels is that they're stunningly well written (except maybe for the last book of her last series). I just realized that I've been calling her a her for the entire review when i don't actually know whether its a boy or girl ... oh well. All her characters are also very well characterized and relationships are done exceptionally, which removes one of the Primal Laws of bad fantasy that: ALL characters will be dumb hero sterotypes with no more emotional range than a thimble.

The Other Primal Law of bad fantasy : The Plot will involve a magical quest to in some way destroy a great evil, is also well addressed with the plot being a complex political affair which keep you guessing right up to the end. with the possible exception of her last series which is at least in part based off the American subjugation of native peoples.

Adult Fantasy, as I am going to call this genre is normally ignored because most adult fantasy is shit. I can find flaws seperatly in her different books but its hard to comment on them when I've done the review like this so i think my next one will be very different. (only on one book to begin with)

EDIT: oh also CLICK THEM

Robin Hobb is a pseudonym and she also has written under the name Megan Lindholm. These earlier books aren't as polished as the one's you've reviewed but they have their own charm.

I did so love the Farseer and Assassin trilogies. It's been a while since I've read them. I might do that again.

The Fool is love.

It's been ages since I've read these books. I really should both a) get back into them and b) finish the Soldier's Son trilogy.

This belongs in User Reviews. Why should we click those crappy little icons at the bottom? What are they?
