Rupert Murdoch is a very powerful man, he owns several, very large media groups (Fox news and the British tabloid "the Sun" to name but a few) and is a major player in today's economy.

My opinion on Mr. Murdoch has declined somewhat of late, as I actually detest with a passion the pile of opinionated, xenophobic, shite that is "the Sun" and the general direction that the news seems to be going in (seriously, I haven't seen/read a news report in the past few months that hasn't had at least three stories about murder/child molestation/rape, and there's also next to nothing on scientific advances, humanitarian efforts (excluding the recent Haiti disaster ofc), or, you know, anything positive).

But anyway, the source of my confusion comes from the fact that while Murdoch has obviously done very well from the whole business/economy thing, he has recently funded Avatar, a film that depicts the exact type of society Murdoch does so well off of as evil and corrupt. I'm not questioning whether it was a good idea to fund Avatar, I personally loved the film and Murdoch has quite obviously made his money back several times over from it, I'm just curious as to why he would fund a film that seems to undermine the very system that has made him so powerful. Thoughts people?

Avatar made money. Murdoch likes money. Men like him will do pretty much anything if it's in the pursuit of profit.

Because Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time.

Murdoch doesn't have any agenda except money. You need to understand this.

He's slimy man who lives off the misery of other and money. Since he has so much money he has a device that can predict the future and he's the only one who has it. So it's no doubt that it was used to see how successful Avatar would be.

I do understand this, BUT surely if people were less trusting of big business then this would damage his ability to make money.

He doesn't believe that people will take the message of the movie away with enough conviction to make a difference? Or he believes that even if they did then it doesn't matter, because they can't do shit anyway? You can't break this many years of ingrained social consciousness because of a movie. He financed it, it made him a shitload of money, and has in no way impacted against him. This man has few morals, of course he did it.

At least the Sun isn't as bad as the Daily Mail.
