[HEADING=1]Avatar: War of the Dragon[/HEADING]
[HEADING=3]The world knew peace once. But with no Avatar to hold the balance in check. That peace has been shattered.[/HEADING]
So this is the second RP I've ever run. I'm not a professional GM like some of the guys around here, but I'm trying. You've nothing to loose by joining, and I wish to become a better GM. But only if I can get this bird off the ground will I ever get the experience to do so.
Since this RP is treading on mostly unwritten ground theres only so much I can tell.
Twelve years ago, Avatar Roku departed this world as he attempted to stop a great volcano on his home island. His best friend, Fire Lord Sozin, left him to perish in the ash and destruction of the earths fury. And so the Avatar cycle continued to the next. Aang was born, the would be Avatar born of the Air Nomads. The Avatar who would be lost for a century in a sphere of ice. Unable to assist the world as the Fire Lord began his march against the world.
Aided by the comet. Sozin's Comet as it would be known to history. The Fire Nation carried out a near total genocide of the Air Nomads in a bid to capture or kill the Avatar. He failed in this endeavor though, it was but apart of his grand scheme of world domination. Not since Chin the Conqueror had one the means and drive to attempt to do so. The Earth Kingdom the Water Tribes, outraged at the cultural and slaughter of the Air Nomad peoples, declared war upon the Fire Nation. The might of the Fire Nation turned its attention towards them. They fell like a hammer on hot steel when they came to the Earth Kingdom. The commerce hub of Taku was wiped out, few survived the assault. The Firebenders overwhelmed the city within days. News of the invasion spread slowly due to the vast expanse of the Earth Kingdom. And presently it still travels to the capital. Troops are already marching west to help reinforce the defense of the territories closest to the Fire Nation, but it was far to late for one city. And they're still months away from some locations.
Not all the Airbenders died in the attacks upon the temples as thought though, many who were in the Earth Kingdom survived years after the atrocity. Though none lived long enough to bear any Airbending children, they fought in the early years of the war with bravery before Sozin's men tracked and cut them down.
The Fire Nation fleet continued to ferry soldiers farther south along the coast. Unsuspecting villages falling prey with little to no warning. Their iron ships the harbingers of war. Kozin, an average sized fishing town shall be next to see the coal smoke clashing with the blue sky. News of the war declaration have just reached this isolated place from the words of recent travelers.
And here is where we begin, Kozin. It has several wooded piers jutting into the sea, protected from the waves by a centuries old seawall made by Earthbenders. Sandy beaches to either side. A smattering of unplanned. But well-kept wooden and stone buildings. Fish mongers sell their catch and merchants peddle their wears in the market.The town is a fair distance from anywhere else on the coast, and often enough sea goers and weary foot travelers find their way to it for respite. The salt air does little to calm the nerves today.

Follow these, there here for a reason.
Well its rather standard fare how things work in this place, but its always good to write them down. These rules have been borrowed from Fappy with permission and small revisions. Who in turn based it off Counter's.
1) All participants should abide by the rules of the Escapist forums, wherever possible.
2) I would like to see a variety of characters in terms of ethnicity, sex, appearance and personality. Too many Earthbender males with similar mind-sets results in a rather dull role-play.
2a) Appearance and Personality should be more than just lists of appropriate traits. Expand them into paragraphs, with more detail than just the basics.
3) Anyone who submits a character must be willing to give their full commitment to the role-play. If you have to drop out, at the very least let everyone else know, so I can properly write you out of the story. No-one likes it when ten people are accepted into a role-play and only five are still actively posting a week later.
4) I expect all participants to have a high level of competency in regards to spelling, grammar and post length.
4a) Godmodders and/or god-moders will be removed from the RP upon repeated instances of the offence.
5) To ensure clarity among writers, I request that all participants follow these formatting guidelines when writing posts:
- Italics ([ /i]) for inner thoughts, or for emphasis;
- Bold ([ /b]) if you want to copy over something that someone else said, or for emphasis;
- Please use plain black text for your posts. If people constantly use coloured text for their speech it quite often becomes a jumbled mess, in my experience;
- All posts and character sheets should be written in third person, past tense, where applicable.
- If out-of-character comments must be made in the thread, please keep them within spoiler tags so as not to break the flow.
6) Get Skype! It's a great way to communicate with your fellow RPers. Once players have been accepted they will be invited to the RP's Skype group chat.
7) Romance is allowed between characters - I fully encourage romantic subplots - but if things do end up going too far, I think that it is best if mature content was taken to private messaging, should the involved parties wish to pursue it. The Escapist tries to remain PG-13 at all times, if I remember correctly. Yes, even in the role-playing forum.
8) In the event that player-versus-player (PvP) combat takes place, I expect all participants involved in PvP to discuss the situation at hand and work together to determine the outcome of the combat, rather than attempt to win at all cost, independent of the plans of the others. A lack of negotiation and compromise leads to PvP fighting degenerating into each side trying to one-up the other, or forcing the opposite side into taking an action against their will, and eventually both participants end up distrusting each other out-of-character.

Time for character development.
Alright, so a few things to say about creating your character creation and some other stuff.
First bit being that I'm looking for a least five other people, one to cover each element and one non bender (Excluding myself). But I'm willing to go up to seven others if I get some good character sheets.
Theres few limits to who you can be. I don't want to stifle your creativity with many limits here. If you want to be a bending master you can go ahead and try, I'll be choosing people by the quality of the character and availability, by secret court rules of course. But that shouldn't stop you from trying, just write a good character. I guess the only true limit is you have to be against the fire nation.
So with that done, you can begin to write up your character. Be who you want to, but make it believable.

Name: Mieko Ruzhang
Age: 20
Sex: Female
Nation: Fire Nation
Bending Discipline: Fire Bender
Appearance: A shorter women standing five foot six. Light red eyes and black hair braided into a pony tail that reaches to the back of her knees. Often wears black makeup around her eyes. Sort of like how the Kyoshi Warriors wear red makeup around theirs. She's naturally thin eyebrows and a slender nose, her cheekbones are high. Her lips are also black from lipstick. Her body is, lithe. Kept so by all the traveling she's been doing.
Her clothing options are rather limited while she's on the road. Not that she doesn't have anything nice to wear though. Mieko has a pair of traveling cloths she usually wears. They're Earth Kingdom make. Green and yellows. The shirt is a robe style, tied up with a cloth as well as buttons. The pants are nothing of interest to speak of. She still has the same boots from when she began her travels, rather ornate Fire Nation knee high style boots. They've held up better than the rest of her equipment, testament to their quality. Her second set of clothing is a more, by comparison. High class set of Fire nation clothing. The a kimono like piece of apparel, red with golden trim. A black embroidered dragon is on the back. She picked it up from a dealer in Ba Sing Se, got a good deal on it to since the dealer wanted it off his hands. Fire Nation clothing doesn't sell to well in other lands.
Nature: Strong willed, proud and undisciplined. She is a rebellious rose that is blossoming into a women. Her nature clashes against the culture of the pre-war Fire Nation. In secret apart from her outward perception she is fragile from the years of ill acceptance from most others for the way she acts. Many nights she has cried herself to sleep. These conflicting forces feed off each other, slowly driving her to isolation and depression and exacerbating the aggressive nature she has. Humans are creatures of change though, and few ever fail to yield to it.
Backstory: Zara was raised in a small village in the south east of the Fire Nation's largest island, and was both the youngest and only girl in her large family full of bustling brothers. Her parents had been desperate for a little girl for a long time so they were overjoyed at her birth. At the discovery of her bending talents however, they were over the moon. In the 100-person-only small village she was the only female firebender. Because of both these facts Zara was spoilt lavishly by her parents, and always received more attention than her brothers. This turned them aggressively jealous of her, and she was often picked on, teased and left out. Amongst all the children of the village she gained a reputation as a freak and was out-casted and ignored. She became fiercely independent as a factor of this. Left mostly to her own devices she spent her time practising the three things she loved most, her bending, music and playing Pai Sho with an old man named Qim, who unlike most of the other villagers, admired her firebrand style. Qim taught her to play the game one day when her mother was in town chatting with other women in a friends home. He was outside on the veranda doing whatever old guys do, and asked as she walked by if she'd like to learn the game. This formed a lasting relationship until Qim's death, she played a few matches once a week with him. It was a blow and a half to lose such a good friend when she had so few.
"See the world and be enlightened". Something the old man said weeks before his passing.
Six months past her eighteenth birthday, she left home with her parents blessing to follow Qim's words. She never told her parents it was that reason she wanted to go, but with what she had told them was good enough. Dad cried to see her little flower-blossom go. It was funny, sad, embarrassing all at the same time, just like him. While mother was near the same, she kept composure 10 fold better than her father, but it was still emotional.
Mieko saw some of the Fire Nation, she'd never been to far from her home town in all her life so it was interesting and hassling. Remembering the old mans words, she sailed across the ocean to the Earth Kingdom. A county as vast as an ocean. Here she continued on to explore the world, Ba Sing Se was her initial goal to reach. She funded her trip by doing odd jobs for villages or entertaining folks with her fire skills as she past through on the way, and gambling in Pai Sho. It was by no means a gold paved path. She was nearly in rags by the time she reached the great walled city, but with hard work and luck she afforded new clothes and stayed some time there, absorbing the culture and knowledge others afforded on her. She eventually left the city for new destinations, the last of which so far has brought her to a small fishing town of Kozin.
Equipment: A small pack to carry what she needs with a bedroll on top, in is is some food and cutlery. A tarp and small rope. Extra set of clothing. A skillet hangs off the back. She also has her flute and a bag of Pai Sho pieces, both very sentimental items for her.
