Just got my tickets for the preview showing tomorrow night and am feeling rather excited.

Are the Escapists feeling the hype? Do you think it will be up there with T2 and Aliens?

Or are you feeling a bit cynical and thinking it's gonna be Fern Gully meets Pocahontas in space?

<-- this guy

edit - lol, the above was in response to the forum name. I realized it did not make sense if taken as a response to your post.

I don't know what to think right now actually. The premise of it sounds so familiar... I dunno, I have the exact same feeling about the game too.

Looks cool I guess, but not $10/ticket cool. I'll wait for it to climb up my Netflix queue. There are better movies coming out anyway (e.g. Sherlock Holmes)

Yeah, love that little bald kid...I mean:

YEAH! EVEN RENTED THE GAME! Which was decent, actually. Not great by any means, but playable.

Ironically, that is exactly how I have been describing it. I still plan on seeing the movie, but to see how incredibly average a movie can be with a half-billion dollar budget.

Part of the problem might be that James Cameron reportedly came up with the idea for Avatar a few decades ago, but he didn't make it then because no one had the special effects tech necessary. But now that he can make it, he is making it. And from what I've seen from trailers of the movie, and reviews of the game, it doesn't seem like he really updated the plot that much... But I think I'll still see it... It has to be better than anything that Uwe Boll or Michael Bay have crapped out... Right?

I went to pre-book tickets today, but they are only showing it in 3D at the cinema on thurs/friday, and there is no word about pre-booking for normal, as the cinema hasn't organised anything.
Kinda making me wish I didn't offer to get my sister tickets to see it for her birthday...
But I will get her those tickets. even if it costs us the colony.

I think the Hype has been too much, the budget was too high and that it will never reach the heights it should because of it.

It will have to be the greatest action movie ever made just to be considered 'OK', and if - God Forbid - the film just turns out to be OK on its own merits then it will go down as one of the most catastrophic wastes of time and money in fil history.

I'm taking the Yahtzee approach to this. Its shit until proven good

also 3+hrs for an action movie.....not convinced

I guess. Is it just me though, or is the plot to Avatar somewhat familiar? I can't help but think I've seen a movie like this somewhere.

Pocahontas
Ah I see it now. Come to think of it, it's not all that original really. I don't know, it may be worth seeing for the effects?

Not particularly - I want to see it, but I don't get the big fuss.

If it gets too preachy about the environment I won't be too impressed.
